Quite possibly. The petty twat in me would like to see us quietly walk away from this and pick up another AM under the radar; that would fuck them up for a bit
I think DL will at the very least plant something quite soon to get some media coverage of us being seriously interested in an alternative to get Everton to blink.

I know the market is crazy at the moment but surely Everton realise they won't get £50m for a player with 12 months left on his contract. It's not as if Barkley ripped it up last season (or the one before that) to justify that. He doesn't even play in a position we are desperate to strengthen. You just know if this happens it will be very late in the window with them having to compromise. On this one i am right behind Levy paying nowhere near what the selling club wants, just to get him in early.

I think we have made our offer for Barkley and probably Perreira and simply walked away - take it or leave it. Hence 'Spurs are not actively pursuing' statements. When they're ready to sit down and talk sensibly Levy will do his stuff.

I think it is Swansea that are holding things up.

Everton wants Siguardsson;
Tottenham wants Barkley;
Swansea wants £50m.

I think the final price for Siguardsson will be the final price that Spurs will have to pay for Barkley.

Once Swansea come down from their valuation. Then this deal may progress.

'Tottenham ramp up Ross Barkley interest with Everton finally ready to compromise on £50million price tag'

Perhaps, if they want to complete the Sigurdsson deal they need to move Barkley on - not just for the place in the squad but to fund it (?). Coming down on that valuation means they can go up on Swansea's.

Seems like a good move for all parties. Barkley gets a fresh start, we get a warm body who can control a bag of cement unlike Sissoko. Everton make space for Siggy and Swansea get a load of money they can do a lot with if they're smart.

When stories like this start to come out, it's usually quite close as the media are a few days behind.

Fingers crossed.

Yeah because that worked out well when we rejected paying big money for Mane and instead splashed similar money for Sissoko.

I we truly had miss out on Mane than we really made one of the biggest mistake in transfer last season.

If he is prepared to knuckle down and adapt to Poch's training methods along with an intense pressing style he could be a quality signing, just worried he might go missing in big games :unsure:
Thats not a problem. Barkley's great strength is playing blinders against bottom half teams. But, you need to win those games too. Play Son, Alli and Erkisen for the big games, Barkley is someone great to rotate in.

I think we should just make a final offer to Everton. Take it or leave it. They will have to sell or lose him in a year for nothing. If they turn it down we move on.

Everton won't sell Ross Barkley on the cheap despite renewed interest from Tottenham

Blues will demand at least £30m for England midfielder - with Spurs keen to do a quick deal

Everton will not be forced into selling Ross Barkley on the cheap – despite a growing acceptance that the midfielder's future lies away from Goodison Park.

Tottenham are keen to sign the England international, with reports this weekend suggesting the Londoners were hoping to wrap up a deal before departing on their pre-season tour of the United States on Wednesday.

Barkley did not travel with the Everton squad for their trip to Tanzania this week, with the official club line being that he was receiving treatment on a groin injury.

Manager Ronald Koeman confirmed that in a press conference after Thursday's win over Gor Mahia, but admitted that it was “not a clear situation.”

Barkley is into the final year of his Blues contract, and despite Koeman repeatedly warning of the need to “sign or go” there has been no sign of a resolution this summer.

Everton have already signed two players – Davy Klaassen and Wayne Rooney – who play in a similar position, and are targeting another in Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Barkley, though, will not be allowed to leave for a knock-down price, and Everton will ask for at least £30m for the 23-year-old.

There is no financial need to sell this summer, and the Blues are adamant that they will not be bullied into selling on the cheap – especially with Swansea adopting a similar stance over the Sigurdsson.

They are also aware that Tottenham were able to hold out for more than £50m for Kyle Walker this week, and have noted the inflated fees across the Premier League this summer.

What a silly article. Sell him for something decent now or nothing next summer.
