Like everything I've seen about this young man although I can imagine that the Toffees wouldn't be happy to sell him to a rival unless it's for an astronomical fee that clearly out illustrious bean counter would never sanction

Agreed - I like the thought of us going after people like this, but realistically they're probably going to turn out very expensive, be under pressure from the transfer fee and be ridiculed by the media.

Be good if English talent was actually supported. Maybe we could do an English Economic Union or something to make English players between English clubs cheaper? (y):D

I don't see him going for less than 10m already... And I also don't see us stumping that money up....
And apparently Liverpool bid 20m for lovren so that's going to be him out of the question...

No offence to this lad but he is a 20 yr old centre back who didn't get a 1st team start until this year. Why he was even considered for England is beyond me. As for Spurs we are looking for an experienced first team regular, not and up and coming. With all the changes we make year in year out I couldn't see him leaving Everton for us. Would you?

If we want to seal up the defence then I would have thought a Naybet type acquisition with experience would be far more immediately valuable.

I saw our old friend Corluka playing C.B. in Brazil?
On second thoughts, Harry Redknapp is proibably chasing him for QPR!

We haven't seen any number related to this. So we're making presumptions about how expensive he'll be. Could well be that Everton is asking silly money. But more likely is that our first offer wasn't enough of a profit on the 3m they spent to get him.

And while I understand the sentiment that wants experience, we don't know how many CB's we will ultimately need as Vertonghen is the only one of ours that hasn't had a rumor regarding him leaving. Could be we need a few and he was one of them rather than him being our only center half purchase this summer.
