Reception of World Cup-winning Captain

What reception would you give to the captain of England if he played for an opponent?

  • Treat them no differently - they're not representing England now

  • Cheer them on their first visit to our ground but never again

  • Cheer them every time they play until they retire

Had a chat with two Arsenal-supporting colleagues at work this morning.

One of them said that if Kane were to bring home the trophy, he'd cheer him like he was one of their players (but only on the first visit to their ground).
The other was like, "Fuck that! I love Kane as an England player but the second he's representing your lot I'm not gonna give him special treatment."

If England's captain played for one of our league opponents, how would you receive them when they played at our stadium?

All being well it's going to be one of our players anyway - either Harry or Hugo, so it's not a dilemma we really have.

Depends on who the captain was. Someone like John Terry can do one, but if Henderson was the captain I could give him around if applause, not that I rate him as a player, but he's not a POS

I went for cheer them every time... not sure I actually would, but I like the idea of being respectful to someone who would be an England Legend.

That said it would have to be someone actually likeable, for example I wouldn’t have picked that option when it was JT or WR as others have said.

I mean to be honest it’s pretty easy for us isn’t it? It’s either going to be Lloris, Kane or Modric...

I'd be happy to clap them when their name was read out during the line-ups, but I wouldn't clap them during the match. I'd clap any of the winning team. They'd be legends.

Option A

They aren't there in their capacity as England captain, they're there in their capacity as e.g. a Chelsea player so why the fuck would you be cheering them? If they'd won the WC presumably I would've watched the final and done my cheering for them then while they were in their role as England captain. Once they rock up to our stadium in a Chelsea kit months later they're just a Chelsea player IMO
