Well we have played a bit better in recent games but we are still in the bottom 4 not the top 4.

Just curious what most fans think are the reasons for this predicament.

My own view is that it is mostly down to underperforming by players who believed we were a top 4 side

I blame you. :-|

Different games, different reasons. In a nutshell.

Jol's tactics - albeit forced through injuries, but I fancy he'd have picked that awful midfield and played too negatively even with a full squad - did for us at Sunderland; Everton were just the better team and scored at good times; Man Utd at OT was, well, Man Utd at OT; Fulham was partly Jol partly ridiculously bad luck; Arsenal was 2 wonder goals - what can you do?; Villa was shocking defending and goalkeeping.

Liverpool, Bolton and Derby were good efforts.

The reason for our bad run, is a mixture of bad/defensive thinking (defend a lead or draw) towards the end of matches, blunders by Robinson, but also a little bit bad luck.

We have a good football team, but still we need a couple of players to be able to compete with the very best. I think Levy/Comolli/Jol know about that too.

Ramos gate was three games into the season, what is your excuse for those three then eh?

Steve Maclaren needs to be blamed for everything.... oh and President Bush.

Yes those two are being whole-heartedly being blamed for the seasons stuttering start. Maclaren for destroying Defoes confidence, injuring King (Quite tenuous but he did play him and the manager appears to be at fault for most things) and, well having an odd red face. Bush is to blame for all other things that are just too numerous to mention

Other than that, I will go for bit of luck in the games against the "Top" teams, and not gelling together well.

Yet another thread which ignores coaching. From Seggers, Hughton etc etc.

Yep Gibbsy, you have finally converted me to agree with you, we need better coaches.

Those swanky Volvo ones are quite nice, better than the Ford Transit they've been transporting the players to matches in so far this season

Glad to know you are happy with the way Seggers is helping Robbo and Hughton helps our set peices/shape/fitness/tactical awareness/defending etc.

Well, yes I have been satisfied with finishing fifth two consecutive seasons under our current manager and coaching staff, but like everyone else on this board I hope and want more.

But, unlike yourself, I don't see how leading a persecution / witchhunt on our coaching team will achieve this.

But there you go, life's all about opinions.

I would go for an 'all the above' option.

I think all the reasons given (in the poll not the thread :)) has contributed to our results, and have cumulated into our current position.

Robinson mainly - but it's not just him, we can never seem to hold onto leads once we have them. This has happened in nearly every game we have played this season:

-Fulham 3-1 to 3-3
-Bolton 1-0 to 1-1
-Arsenal 1-0 to 1-3
-Aston Villa 1-0 to 4-4
-Liverpool 2-1 to 2-2

There are 5 games there which we got 4 points from. We should of got at least 10 if not 12. I dont know why we do it but if we want to be a top 4 team instead of a bottom 4 team we need to hold onto and build on leads against teams like Villa, Fulham & Bolton. If we had kept our leads against those three we would have 13 points and would be 10th in the table.

Robinson is the major factor we let in goals - for me he is always 2 or 3 yards too far off his line leading to him being lobbed on many occasions. And against Villa well he had a howler if we're honest. I shall be intrigued to see how Cerny gets on against Newcastle now Robinson is rued out...

Blame the lack of team spirit when on the pitch, there is not enough movment to offer a pass when a team mate is on the ball, not enough tracking back to help cover or double up on players

afew players playing under par also goes into this, and not just at the back, some of the forwards and midfield too... and some shitty luck!
