Obviously a massive team effort but I was so impressed with Wanyama who did not let us down when we needed him most - proper grit! Also shout out to Dele (who annoys me with his slow decision making in CM) - I noticed he was the leader on the pitch in terms of talking and encouraging the boys to keep believing!

When Moussa went off I thought game over especially as skipp would have to come on for Vic. Amazing he’s done so well and lasted the 90. Not being funny but wtf was the extra added time all about. Seemed pretty crooked allowing the game to run over.

I might be wrong but I think I remember a VAR call in injury time that may have something to do with the additional time!

I think it’s hard to name any of our players who wasn’t sloppy, or switched off at times in that game. City completely battered us for three quarters of that game. Huge defensive mistakes from Rose, and Trippier let them in on several occasions. However, there were times when every single Spurs player did something brilliant. Rose was a leader out there, Trippier made some amazingly calm tackles and passes in the final few minutes.

Basically what I’m saying is that every one of the boys made errors last night, but every single one of them is still a god damned fucking hero.

I love this club.

Mate I want them to beat us in the league, and then win every game they have left. If the Dippers won the league it would take the sheen off our Champions league glory
Absolutely nothing (sport related) would take the edge of us winning the Champions League. Nothing :D

I know it's an extremely optimistic request BUT, before you all get stuck into slagging off/blaming Trippier, ranking him 3/10 etc (and bashing @Paolo10 ) .

Maybe take into account that the lad actually put in 2 or 3 goal/match saving challenges, in his own penalty area when our backs were well and truly against the wall.

He also dealt with Sane very well after his introduction.

Yes he could've performed better (in the first half) , but he didn't let his head drop, he didn't crawl into his shell, and he didn't let anyone down in the second half at all.

Oh, he also played the reasonably important part of putting in the corner that resulted in the other whipping boy, Llorente, to score the most crucial goal in the clubs recent history, and the goal that put all of us on here in dreamland.

Everyone gets 49 out of 10.

Fucking yesssssssss

Did anyone else switch it off when sterling ‘scored’, go and kick the living shit out of their sofa shouting ‘ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS FUCKING CLEAR IT’ and then turn it back on a minute later to see it being reviewed by var? And then it was disallowed!!!! I didn’t even cheer, I was just literally trying to stay alive at that point.

Heroes.
No. I’d already walked out of the room by then and came back in to see the City team and fans going mental because they thought they’d won. Then...

One of the great things for me about last night is that just for a few moments the concept that a country can buy a football club
any football club and then pile obscene levels of money into it ,making a joke of the FFP rules...to a point where they just outbid everyone and hoover up the best players/managers....and then win everything in sight...

..Has been knocked back...normal service is sure to be resumed , but just for a magic moment ,money wasn't everything .

Cold light of day reflections...

Our back five is as weak as it has been for a few years, and this is despite Verts and Toby being arguably our best CB pairing since forever. The fullbacks are just not consistently disciplined enough...for all of the heroic, last-ditch defending we did second half, this doesn't hide the fact that their three first half goals should have been avoided. In many ways, City have similar issues (which is incredible given how much dolla they've spent).

Wanyama looked dead on his feet second half, and he, Alli and Eriksen were all guilty of not keeping the ball/finding a team mate A LOT, which just added to the pressure. Moura and Son were massively nullified by the Sissoko sub, which was a real shame given how much their pace and trickery had got at City until that point.

Toby MOM, Verts close second. Son and Moura good....Llorente did a job, and his experiences at the top level are vital for us.

Dry your eyes - doesn't detract from the elation of our efforts, but this is a rating thread; are you going to tell me we've been defending well of recent, and especially last night...?

Taking the emotion out of these ratings. I don't care man city were terrible defensively at times, just more the way we played.

Poch 8/10 - not sure what's happened to our defending but the change when Sissoko went off was positive, even if llorente is not very mobile. But bringing Sanchez and Davies on meant we could only absorb pressure and went too negative. When Sterling scored at the end I couldn't see where a goal could come from as we wouldn't be able to keep the ball long enough. The goal was coming and it did but luckily VAR saved us.

Lloris 9 - some top quality saves that kept us in. Cometh the hour...

Trippier 7 - mixed bag performance. Let's players go and other times makes great challenges.

Toby 8 - made some important challenges

Jan 8 - made some important challenges

Rose 8 - a few fcuk ups but on the whole was superb. Even helped get up the pitch

Sissoko 8 - was getting stuck in as usual. Absolutely gutted he went off and feared the worse

Wanyama 9 - the lad did his job but I don't think anyone expected him to play 90 mins. He not fit enough but still gave 110%. Was walking dead for last 30 mins but never gave up.

Alli 8 - he was our leader yesterday. DM is not his role and it showed but he didn't shy away from his responsibilities and got stuck in. Have the ball away needlessly at times but he had to rein himself in for the team.

Eriksen 7 - constantly probed and tried to pick passes and made some shocking decisions especially at the end for sterling "goal". For a top player his judgement at times is shocking but he did try to keep us ticking.

Lucas 7 - he was a threat, up top he kept their defence deeper, which also created space for Son. Sometimes off the ball work goes unnoticed.

Son 10 - what a fcuking player. First goal he sold ederson and second goal was superb finish. Constantly a threat throughout which is amazing given his insane last nearly 2 years of football. Works his bollocks off

Subs
Lllorente 7.5 - he tried to lead the line and help out defensively. His lack of pace was evident but his was getting into spaces and did hold the ball up fairly well. And the decisive goal

Davies /Sanchez 7 - did their jobs

VAR 11 - got decisions spot on. Worked tirelessly to get the right decisions.

But I have to say KDB was fcuking immense as he went through the gears. What a fcuking player.

Both teams defended shit last night but, unlike their defence, ours had literally no midfield protecting it & was nothing but exposed from the first whistle.

You say our back 5 is weak & has been for a few years, despite the FACT that, until last season, it was the best defence in the league & one of the best in Europe.

Your so called ratings (and feelings) don't take into account the ridiculous injuries to key personnel that we've had to endure, the lack of rest for anyone the the last 18 or so months, and the fact we hadn't played an actual home game for almost 2 seasons.

Remember when we were at home, and that back 5 that's been weak for a few years went an entire season unbeaten there?

Chill the fuck out, Mrs Collins.

Ok, let's start with your inability to read...

Me: Our back five is as weak as it has been for a few years
You: You say our back 5 is weak & has been for a few years

And let's end there. The rest of your post has obviously been written through tears, so i'll let it go.

Couldn't be arsed to give a detailed write up. The decision to start with a diamond was suicidal. I thought we got over this shit with the Liverpool game. Most of the match it looked like we set up without ever seeing a Man City match before. As much as we need a couple of midfielders, we've had these problems with a "proper" midfield before, so that excuse doesn't cut it.

Lloris 6 - One great save. A couple of dodgy moments.

Trippier 5 - Bad first half. Very bad. Good second and defended Sane very well.
Alderweireld 8 - Great game. Very calm in his decision making.
Vertonghen 6 - Not his best. I think he could have communicated better with Alli and Rose to deal with De Bruyne, but the set up put him and the back four + midfield in a bad spot.
Rose 7 - Was very unlucky with the deflection as he played the situation perfectly. Stopped another goal after a poor save from Lloris.

Sissoko 6 - Not really going to blame him for the lack of midfield because he was set up to do about three jobs.
Wanyama 7 - He had some bad moments, but some very good ones too. Thought after 60 minutes he was going to be a liability but seem to hit a second gear in the last 15-20.
Alli 5 - Played one great pass to Llorente, but messed up a chances with poor play and was too slow in general last night.

Eriksen 6 - Had a couple of good moments but not enough. Obviously got lucky at the end. Don't know what he was thinking and he done something similar earlier in the match.

Lucas 7 - He didn't get the ball enough, but when he did it often ended up with a chance for us. Big part in the first two goals and played a great through ball to Son that he miss controlled when he was clear. Some of his decision making defending wasn't the best, but I think that's a lack of understanding/awareness rather than laziness.

Son 7 - First goal was a bit lucky. Second was great. Worked harder than usual, but like Lucas he has a tendency to switch off.

Boys Men of the match award has to be shared by the ball boys tbf. That was some rapid efficiency they had going.

Still trying to process the game and in hindsight what an absolute mess it was! Not that it matters now! Does make ratings really difficult.

Our setup was absolutely suicidal and I'm still not sure if the Llorente sub was the right one, but we got there in the end!

Absolute rollercoaster of emotions, spent most of the game thinking we'd blown the opportunity, was then surprisingly mellow/reflective at 5-3 and of course buoyed by VAR, and have been buzzing since FT.

Moot point but I really think we should have shifted to that deeper 4-4-1-1 we employed after the 3rd goal at 2-1. I think we contained things pretty well there with the wide men supporting the FBs and could have made the tie simpler. Their defence was always going to give us a chance and I'm shocked we gave them so much joy wide for so long.

I've gone for 'team performance' for MOTM as I think that's what it was, especially with no VAR option. Individually I feel that most made errors* but all contributed, fought hard for each other and eventually pulled through against the odds. Huge effort and I'm proud of all of them.

Sonny obviously the most worthy individually and he will be a big miss in the first leg. Hopefully he can settle the tie in Amsterdam though!

*might be harsh as it is kinda natural and no one has really mentioned but Toby really ducked out of the first goal for me for example. I also think Lloris was pretty skittish for their 2nd and especially 3rd goals, on the other hand that proactive style is what brought the KDB wonder save that more than made up for it. The other 'errors' from other players (Tripps, etc..) were more obvious and have been discussed in full in here already.

Voted for team effort
because almost everyone made bad decisions
passed poorly, was not where they should have been
stepped up and took one for the team constantly.

The collective, assembled on the cheap,
stuck in there against Sheik Mansour's expensive toy collection
and did us proud.

Been watching football a very long time
and never seen anything like that,
well except on Hackney Marshes every week.
