If you play a 5 man defence you lose a man in midfield, don't think you want that happening - we were light in that position as it is.
Or lose a man up front.
I'm sure Pep would have prepared his team all week against a back 5.
Plus he could not have expected us playing a narrow diamond in midfield, exposing our fullbacks even more.
When you get a weird game like this, it normally means something unexpected has happened with the formations. We left the side doors wide open, and they left their front door exposed to the diamond.

We couldn't have got a result in a fair fight, so MP invoked chaos and Pep was too stubborn/slow to change his approach.
MP has shown no sign of being a tactical genius so far, but in practice he has effectively outsmarted the best manager of our age and come away with an important result with a far far inferior team/squad. I guess I have to rate him a 10.

Are you on crack?

No. I try and stay off the stuff nowadays...although i'm getting the urge after engaging with you. Let me try again (and I've emphasised the word that seems to have flummoxed you):

Me: Our back five is as weak as it has been for a few years
You: You say our back 5 is weak & has been for a few years

I.e. we're not as good defensively as in recent years. So you agree with me, which is nice.

How the living fuck is me quoting what you said "You say our back 5 is weak and has been for a few years", agreeing with you?

I've not once said a single thing about the weakness of our back 5, other than quoting your words.

Put the pipe down & pay attention.

Or lose a man up front.

Which is effectively what happened after the Sissoko sub where we transitioned to a 4-4-1-1 forcing the wide men to really help out. I think a 5-3-1-1 could well have achieved the same thing and possibly had more counter attacking threat due to the likes of Son more forward instead of covering his FB.

Good point on the chaos though, us having so many forward did help us get the two goals. I just wished after that 2nd we went to the more defensive shape, rather than allowing Bernardo a third of the pitch to himself 2 mins later!

End of the day it doesn't matter either way as we're in the Semis of the CL baby!

he really should of saved the sterling disallowed goal, its all immaterial now however
Question marks about being beaten at the near post by Aguero’s shot too. Yes it was a great strike, but near post is near post. I know the Rose deflection was cruel, but lloris of a few seasons back saves that too.

Like Eriksen, I feel he isn’t playing at the consistent level he has in the past. Great player still and I love the guy, but I think it’s fair to critique the poor along with praising the good, for example the great save vs de Bruyne.

Think Moura gets more than 6.5. He was instrumental for both of Son's goals. First goal, driving run into the heart of City's defence, quick lay off to Dele for the pass to Son when City had no time to regroup. For the second, he had the speed and awareness to pounce on Aymeric's poor touch, dispossess, drive forward, turn back into space, quickly lay off to Eriksen for that killer pass to Son.

You are probably right, although my impression for a lot of the game was we seemed to be playing with only seven/eight effective players for much of the game...Moura out of it for much of it
