It may sound like I am critical of Poch but there seemed to be no obvious tactics or game plan employed against City. Play like this on Saturday then we can kiss the FA cup goodbye

Verts my MOTM. Credits also to Moura Eriksen and Dembele.

Vertonghen a class act and MOTM.

Very little else to take from that game, but a special mention for Bradley Allen on Radio London for this piece of commentary

"De Bruyne. When he opens up his legs, he's like an antelope."

I would give Verts man of match, but not when his defence conceded 3.

Lucas MotM simply because he actually tried to take the game to man city. I think he can be an xfactor for us

Verts by a country mile.

I am genuinely worried about our FA cup game next weekend.

Vertonghen is a 3 times MOTM today. He is even better than most of the city players today.

Interestingly, I cannot really recall any man city players were offside today. Our defensive tactics are really poor today.

Kane and Sanchez are disaster today. Lloris, Trippier, davies and Dier are very poor as well.

I don't even understand the Sissoko sub. If you need to sub Sissoko on, it should be when we are 2-1 down and get dominated by Sterling and Jesus's pace. When we are 3-1 down, we should sub our very own sterling on. But again, usual Poch on-pitch management. To be fair to Sissoko, he did ok.

Lucas is really good today. Should get more game time. Indeed, it would be even more ideal if we start him today against delph.

Spot on mate.

I sat high up in Wembley today as opposed to my usual lower season ticket seat and it gave the perfect tactical view.

We kept our ridgid 4-2-3-1 shape and it just didn’t work against them. Poch got it very wrong by not starting Son and/or Lucas. With Lamela on the right cutting inside and Alli on the left also cutting inside and both not able to beat a man and run with the ball we were so easy to defend against and just got pinned back.

Then once they get in front they are very very hard to play against as they slow the game down hugely, little clever fouls to break up play and just keep even more of the ball to tire us out mentally and physically, so frustrating to watch and play against but a clever game plan.

A loss is one thing but to be so so dominated for about 70 Mins, and devoid of ideas is what is so so disappointing. Clearly we/Poch learnt nothing from our last game against them and didn’t watch how Liverpool played against them.
This is why I’ve always said if Lpool sort their defence out they’ll be a better team than us which is being shown when it comes to games against the very very best teams Liverpool are fairing better, this is down to tactics and personnel.

Jan.V MOTM by a country mile.

Lloris - 5 - errors creeping in

Trippier -4.5 again didn’t look comfortable vs Sane. Should watch ATA to see how to defend against him. His passing was also terrible today, showed up under pressure.

Jan - 9.5 - incredible performance

Sanchez - 7 had a lot to do and did fairly well but got turned on the Jesus goal

Davies - 5 - games like this highlights his lack of ability to beat a man 1v1

Dembele 7 - average game by his standards

Dier 5 - broke up play a bit but not his best game

Eriksen 7 - didn’t have much of the ball

Lamela 5.5 - did ok, standard Lamela performance really. Some ok bits.

Alli 6 - not his best game but again not much of the ball and wasted on the left

Kane 5 - either he was saving his energy by not pressing the back 2 or he was pissed off a how dominated we were getting as just stopped trying. Poor from him today.

Subs:
Son 6 - didn’t have much time or chance to effect the game
Moura 8 - actually committed and beat a few men something not one of our other players did once up to that point. Sure he gave the ball away a bit but at least he gave them something to think about.

Poch - 3 - got it very wrong this time. Son and/or Moura as well as Rose and Aurier should’ve all started. No pace killed us. It’s fine when we play weaker teams and teams we dominate the ball against but not against City.

We’ve been in brilliant form lately so can’t complain too much but this game showed that we are still a level or 2 below where we need to be I’m afraid. Luckily for us City and Lpool are not in the FA cup otherwise I really don’t think we’d have a chance the form they’re in and the way they usually play against us.

Utterly disappointing and frustrating game.
Fuckkkkkk offffff.

We go again.

Verts.

Draw a line under this and move on. Think some people forgot who we were actually playing today.

Was a poor performance but nothing to lose sleep over, regroup and go again against Brighton.

Poch got this completely wrong with his lineup today. Still love him though. We have more squad depth than we've had in decades. I hope he learns to use that depth and start the appropriate players in the matches they will be most useful.

Aurier and Rose are better in some matches, today being one of them. Davies and Trippier in other more tactical matches. Wanyama should also be starting some matches over Dier. The same goes with Alli, Lamela, Son and Lucas. The only nailed on starters we should have in every big match are Kane, Eriksen, Dembele, Vertongen and Lloris as poorly as he played today.

Vertongen MOTM. If it wasn't for him City may have scored 6. Dier, Tripper and Lloris were terrible. Hope we shake this loss off and move on in time to kick United's ass.

Moura, nice cameo. Special mentions for the patheticness of Trippier who must have had a pass completion of 90% to city (no exaggeration) for Sanchez who was the only Spurs player able to play onside... over and over for city, for LLoris who seems to have changed his Worzel head for the no brains one, and for Kane who done a great impression of the invisible man, all that said Mosschester had decided the result before a ball was kicked, he was truly pathetic, losing 3-1 when on the field it was 12 v about 7 wasn't too bad I suppose...

Not enough players showed up today and Poch didn’t help things either. We got outplayed, but managed to get back in it and could have gotten a point, but ultimately the third goal took us out and ended the game right there. You could see our players didn’t believe in it after that.

I thought Jan was MotM, solid all game and didn’t make any mistakes. Eriksen did what he could passing the ball around with the little possession we had and he deserved to get a goal when he made a good run from deep. Dele was probably our second best offensive player, but sometimes held on to the ball for too long. Lamela had a stinker, completely off today. Nothing good came from him and that right side with him and Trippier was dire. Dembele and Dier got played around, it also shows the difference between our two midfields. City can pass the ball around because all their midfielders are really good passers and ours isn’t. I thought Davies was decent, but it’s a big problem that neither him nor Trippier are fast enough to take on a man. Also poor crosses today from them. Trippier and Sanchez were awful. Hugo made mistakes again today. It’s like 3 games in a row where he costs us goals. Probably Kanes worst game, he just seemed so uninterested in getting involved, like he didn’t want to run. Especially in our press, were he just walked around. Maybe he is still injured a bit, because he looked rusty and off.

[edit]oh yeah. Also the subs. Lucas looked really good in his cameo, got involved and had a go at City. Son didn’t do much.

Poch tactics kinda sucked too. For all of Citys passing, it was actually when they played direct that we got in trouble with our high line. The first goal was embarressing. A long ball from a Kompany and Jesus are in on goal. We did it so many times, they even almost had a goal from an Ederson goalkick. Our positioning in defense was some of the worst i have ever seen.

All in all a deserved win for City. Hopefully we can get over it and win the FA Cup.
