1st Half.

Good half where this Chelsea performance was much better and controlled than the previous game between us. We are a goal up but should have been two penalties in my opinion. Our forward players (Kane excepted) should be worked harder.

Need some dynamism to start us to be more offence, probably bring on Lamela for anyone of Eriksen or Son who have both been quiet.

Chelsea however have been dominant in our half but would have probably had a goal themselves had they played with a striker.

Good decision on Poch to pick Gazzaniga in place of Lloris just in case a penalty is awarded against us (VAR).

2nd Half

Very back to the wall stuff where we defended everything that they threw at us. We were not as formidable offensively as we had in the past but it was still a good performance by most.

Hazzard must be the most protected player in the league as both Lamela and Sanchez both won the ball off him but both earned yellow cards as he went down even though neither fouled him.

Contenders for MOTM were our defence but special mention to Gazzaniga, Sissoko but I will give Captain Kane on this occasion who literally led from the front, both in defence and going forward.

Just didn't click up front. Resolute defending but really last man stuff for far too long.

Off nights for Son, Eriksen, Dele. Defense kept us up.

Really hope we manage to get in a midfielder this window as Winks + Sissoko every game isn't going to cut it for the second half of the season, nor should it.

Kane battled.

Gazzaniga distribution poor - really question our "out from the back" mentality when we're up against it like we were there.

How we didn't bring anyone on until 75 when Chelsea had 3 pairs of fresh legs on I'll never know - one of Poch's biggest weaknesses.

Defended really well. Not sure on man of the match but thought Sanchez and Toby were good as were the full backs. Sanchez probably shades it. Dele was poor but improved after being put back into central midfield.

Kane showed a cool head with the penalty and was clever in getting us a breather in the 2nd half when he went down injured. This allowed Poch to make some adjustments.

What today showed is how desperately we need a top class central midfielder, especially in the big games.

Was his distribution that poor? I thought it had more to do with our defense putting him in bad positions but he handled it better than Lloris would’ve done.

Our midfielders and attackers looked dead on their feet after the 1st half. And we defended too deep which gave the likes of Eriksen, Son and Dele too much ground to cover. However, a very solid defensive display and Chelsea were reliant on long shots and hopeful crosses. Thought all of our back 4 were very good. Gazza was almost faultless in goal and looks so dependable.

We didn’t turn up and tactically we got schooled, good job they don’t have a striker. Escape act from us.
Gaz mom for me, couple of crucial saves and generally claimed everything he went for.

Poor performance but got the job done, which is all that matters. What a save by Gazza in the first half.

We defended like trojans but Sarri had our number tactically and we were never able to get comfortable. A combination of excellent defending, shit attacking from Chelsea and us taking our only chance, and we've somehow ended up winners. Best result we could hope for given the balance of play.

I think we're really lacking something in midfield. Winks and Sissoko both did fine but this game was crying out for a Dembele - someone with strength and composure to find space in the middle of the park and move the team forward. At his best Winks can do this, but to me he looks a bit low on confidence at the moment and isn't taking any risks at all. Sissoko drives forward like a fucking monster truck on nitrous oxide but lacks the composure we need against teams that press us high like this.

If we can get a fit Dembele back soon it will help us so much against the big teams for the remainder of the season.

I don’t think we looked dead on our feet, we just sat back soaked up the pressure and planned to pick them off on the counter attacks, sadly our counters were shit, otherwise we would have picked off.

Tough game for us out there but we dug in and defended well and somehow got out with the win.

Gazza MOTM, and I thought that although Kane looked a bit pooped, he was still rather beastly.

We looked very tired in the second half, really highlights the problems with such a shallow squad, not enough rotations

Gazza MOM for mine.

I felt Winks struggled tonight, wanted too much time on the ball, but playing out from the back is where our problems started.

Couldn't handle their high press and we were far too slow with our passing and moving, obviously hindered by their effective pressing game.

When we get pressed high like that, and our struggling to play through it, we should go long more and push Dele and Son closer to Kane for second balls.

Eriksen was also way under par, so our pass and move tempo always looks more laboured as a result.

Very good defensive display though, dug in and got over the line. Dele was really good for the last 30 minutes in this respect but MOTM must go to Gazza.

He's going to give Hugo some real competition now. It's more than a good start for him, he's impressing consistently.

Need our vigour and Eriksen back for United as OGS will have been watching closely tonight. Expect them to start fast and aggressive come Sunday.

Personally think we were crying out for a midfielder who can pass quickly and accurately. Our counters could be so much more dangerous and also take the creative pressure off Eriksen a bit.

Gazzaniga - 8 Did well. Made a great save. Felt like Chelsea made the decision pre match to test him many times from outside the box and he handled it brilliantly. Would have given him a 9 but him distributing constantly to the back 4 kept us under needless pressure all 2nd half.
Trippier - 5 Caught out of position a lot against Willian who himself was quie poor(thats likely why Sarri swapped CHO to try to take advantage of him when Pedro came on) and was a bit poor passing it out from the back. But at the same time, that was quite easily his best performance in months. Shows how awful he's been that this performance was his best.
Sanchez - 6 A bit poor on the ball but good defensively
Toby - 7 A rock back there.
Rose - 9 Proper fullback. Brilliant. Dealt well with Hudson-Odoi and had Pedro in his pocket. MOM.
Winks - 6 Faded as the game went on
Sissoko - 6 Same as Winks.
Son - 5 Poor tonight.
Dele - 6 Did well clearing the ball but not great going forward.
Eriksen - 4 Has an arm and a leg in Madrid already I guess. Awful tonight.
Kane - 6 Good pen.

Lamela - 6

Llorente - NET
