One thing I did notice about Winks was that, when he played his diagonal balls out wide, usually to KWP yesterday, they seemed to be a bit slow and 'floaty'.
It felt like this slowed down the move and restricted KWP's space, time and options.
He needs to ping those sort of balls a bit more imo.

I do miss BC's write ups after the match, let him back on refs

...and as the person who inadvertently got him removed , I heartily agree . Last time I contacted him...he said he would like to return , but the establishment here are super hostile to the idea sadly .

Apart from costing the goal you mean?
Rubbish, Rose did not cost us the goal. He was trying to, but failed to deal with the error caused by the midfield being non existent and the CBs (Toby) being out of position. But I suppose blaming Rose suits your Agenda

Diamonds aren’t forever. I’ve said it from when we first started playing it. It’s a horrible formation that encourages a lack of tracking back from the front 2/3 vulnerability on the flanks due to no wingers. Really don’t know what he’s playing at!

Kane - Goals
Eriksen - X Factor
Winks - Positivity, always wants to move the play forward
NDombele - Brings freshness
KWP - Excellent, solid for 90 minutes, wasn’t his fault we lacked the spark up front
Rose - Needs to get his head straight as he is the man for the job

Nobody really had an off day. It just really highlighted the importance of Eriksen to this squad of players. They are all better when he is there.

I thought Winks was poor myself. Didn't cover the counters well apart from one exceptional tackle late in the first half. His passing was hurried yet sideways. However I don't think the shape, lack of movement and Sissoko helped him.

Before Eriksen came on the midfield and strikers were heading towards 5/10. Only KWP had a clue before Eriksen came on.

Exactly this. It was actually Ndombele who didn’t track the run, but as usual those with an anti Rose agenda will look to blame him for the mistakes of others.

Amazing how people see things so differently.

Rose quality yesterday?! Must be having a laugh. Defensively he was all over the place and yet again as soon as he gets the near the opposition box he falls apart quality wise.

I’m hoping Sessegnon is brought in to be a LB actually and surely he must be, because he isn’t going to be an inside forward playing in place of Son. We will be so much better having a LB with proper composure and quality in the final third and personally Sessegnon hasn’t exactly got to be Maldini defensively to improve on Rose.

Rose is lauded for his tenacity and attitude and whilst he did some good things yesterday which again relate to his aggressiveness and determination, I feel it’s an area ripe for improvement quality wise.

I don’t feel Rose is so good defensively that we lose much by throwing in Sessegnon fairly soonish. But what Sessegnon will bring attacking wise will be surely much better than what Rose does.

No. It was 100% on Rose to track that runner and cover. They can see the play developing. That’s what fullbacks are supposed to do.

Let’s be honest it’s not the first time Rose goes to sleep defensively in games.

I really hope I'm wrong but I can see us switching to 3 at the back in order to play Sess.

We looked more assured when Eriksen came on and he worked the ball well. Taking off Winks (who had a good game too) and having that extra attacker and especially Eriksen with his control helped up put tremendous pressure on Villa. Some good movement and NDombeles goal (we haven't seen too many from that position over the last while) changed the game and we kept piling on the pressure.
Its possible that had Lo Celso been ready and we put him in for Winks we also would have been more fluid than we were earlier in the game.
Having Sissoko and Ndombele in this game together we looked heavier and it will work when a game is physical and in the middle but in this one it was the movement that was most important to break down Villa and Sissoko just doesn't have the quality to finish off what he starts.
I thought KWP and Rose both played well .Ndombele has a lot of quality that will add a tremendous aspect to our game (Lampardish)
I think as well Son would have had a field day in this one.
Nothing bad.Well maybe Sanchez is a bit iffy at times

you are joking, right? I understand Rose's liabilities but McGinn ran straight down the middle of the park and none of our midfielders ran with him. If you think thats the fullbacks responsibility why arent you upset with KWP?

KWP looked good, but he wasn't really going to have much defending to do yesterday.
He gave us width without making that killer cross or making space for others to cross.
When we changed formation, he came inside and the crossing was left to others.
Now that might have just been a consequence of the new formation, or maybe MP did not have any confidence KWP was ever going to make a key contribution.

Defensively, MP switched the CBs - Sanchez does not look comfortable as LCB, while Alderweireld plays either side well. But my guess is he wanted KWP with the most experienced defender by his side. Maybe that contributed to Alderweireld being out of position for their goal. I certainly think it contributed to Sanchez being unsettled for their goal.

KWP needs games and if he can't be picked against Villa, he is not going to play at all. It is shame we can't play in the europa as well - that competition was the making of Kyle Walker who until recently held the record for europa games played (maybe) - Ozil probably has the record now.

Ive never thought that KWP was anything special defensively but yesterday he did generally give his all and played well. Sanchez at times lacks confidence.

Tremendous tackle by Winks and its good to see that.Im not sure he would be in now with Ndombele and Skipp in any attacking role. His passes out of defence are very good as well. Now he has to own that position and make those tackles back there as there are many players more forward that him. Not sure what we will do with Dier and how the DM position will end up. If Winks plays DM against the big boys that will be a test
