Just watched the a recording of the game and I do agree with the consensus, where we created more clear cut chances, and had we been more clinical, we would have 3 more points in the bag. This despite us playing with an injury ravaged squad, against the team who in all likelihood will be the Premier League champions for the 2nd year running, at their ground.

I was dreading April where I knew we had to play Man City 3 times, but our boys have given me new enthusiasm and coupled with optimism that we will now win our remaining Premier League games to be placed in the top 4, therefore confirming our involvement in the Champions League next season ( with us going through to the CL final in May would be the icing on the cake!).

Foyth my Man of the Match as serendipitously we have found our best right back!!

By the way, well done @TheChosenOne , the job is now yours if you so choose! (y)

Foyth playing out of position is a substantial upgrade on Trippier. I would be happy to see there for the remaining games

Agree, so long as he cuts out the Cruyff turns.
If Poch can cut out the stupid risks he takes he will be a top player
In home games when the bus is parked, Tripps would be my option,

Way too stressful. Understudy at best.

Not sure what your point is here.

There are a few people using Foyth's good defending as an excuse to downgrade Trippier. But Trippier, as a proper fullback, has a double-job to do. Foyth was obviously told to sit back and cover Sterling and not to worry about getting forward.

He controlled one of their main
and most dangerous threats
surely the first job of a defender.
Our other defenders
the 'modern' full backs
often expose us to danger
as he did when he was caught on the ball
and negate their positivity.
he's not even a full back
but a converted centre half.

I would not mark him down
for failing some existential test
as a modern full back.

We have no-one of the quality
of the Liverpool full-backs.

I thought Foyth played very well. Arguably our best player on the night. My issue was using Foyth's fine performance in a limited role as an excuse to have a pop at our other fullbacks.

I liked his 'good skills' and thought he put his foot in plenty.

He's only just coming back to fitness and will be huge for us in the coming weeks
But this is Dele. He drifts in and out of games but then pops up in some great spaces.

I take your point.
I like the idea of the swashbuckling 'modern' fullback.
But on a cost benefit analysis
do they give away more goals
than they set up or assist?

It's a very demanding role
and devastating when its done effectively.

I agree that Foyth played well
cleary to instructions
and only came unstuck when he tried to get forward.
Both Trippier and Aurier are often covered by Sissoko.
None of our fullbacks can cross consistently well.

Whether on another day
Foyth could play the 'modern' role is as yet untested.
very few can though many will try.
