Ederson obviously..

OK for us - Foyth was excellent out of position (could be be a RB if he wanted) and against one of the most in form (though c***ish) wingers in world football

Dele, Vertonghen were very good.

Overall this was a team effort and we passed very very well considering. On another day we'd have won that by 2-3 goals. Gazza didn't have a tricky save to make - no chance on the goal
I thought Dele did nothing apart from some good skills.

Sanchez my MOTM, Foyth very good as Well. Dier looked very rusty though. Wanyama isn’t as good as he used to be but he looked far better than Dier.

Good to see big Vic looking strong when coming on again today! Massive player for us if he can get fit.

Foyth and Sanchez for me today, really strong up against sterling today. All in all, haven’t cared less about a loss in my life. Now to win the remaining 4 (y)

We were wondering what it would be like in the aftermath of midweek. Would City come out looking for vengeance? Or would it be us, despite all the injuries, who took confidence and belief from it and did a repeat job? In the end the answer was everyone looked a bit weary, and as a match it was pretty low on quality and dynamism from both teams.

On general play City had by far the majority of the game and looked the superior outfit. They looked very tense today though and weren't at their free flowing best. We were on the back foot but clung on and kept in the game.

The game swung ultimately though on not taking our chances. You will always get them the way they set up, but unfortunately we didn't capitalise on key moments. There were four, possibly five where you'd hope the ball hits the back of the net, but we weren't clinical. Then at the other end we conceded a rank bad goal. Silva cuts inside on his strong foot, three Spurs players don't close him down, he gets his head up, somehow we see one, then two, free headers and the ball is in our net. We kind of fucked ourselves today really.....

You were left hoping for a late rally, as the nerves grew around the stadium you were hoping we might find a last salvo, but as the game went on we looked like we had very little left in the tank and didn't offer much.

And that's a little concerning for me, two or three key individuals looked out on their feet and we need them to have recovered for a big game on Tuesday. No margin for error now.

Gazzaniga - Not always a convincing commanding presence. Distribution was off a few times but pretty accurate on the whole. Made a great save in the second half to keep us in the game.

Foyth - On the whole held down his flank really well. However got himself in trouble with the ball plenty of times, and he is asleep at the back post for the goal.

Sanchez - Got better as the game went on. He's partly culpable for the goal too.

Alderweireld - A couple of vital blocks, but he too was crap for the goal.

Vertonghen - Don't think he played that well today, some of the worst use of the ball I have seen from him. Lucky not to concede a penalty.

Davies - Gave Silva far too much respect, including for the goal. Didn't use the ball very well. Not a great outing.

Dier - Unsurprisingly, looked way off the pace for a game like this.

Alli - Looked like he had nothing in the tank, and so was really a bit of a waste of space. Lost count of the number of times a City player left him for dead and it put pressure on us defensively.

Eriksen - Started alright, couple of nice passes and wasted a great chance. Massive decline as the game went on.

Moura - Tried to put himself about. Had a chance and mucked up a couple of other promising openings.

Son - Wasted two good chances and did fuck all in the second half.

Subs:
Wanyama - Not great, but at least got about the pitch breaking up play a few times and generally got closer to them than any of our other players at that point.

Rose - Also provided a bit of grit and got about them.

Llorente - Little time to make an impact, but did have one nice knock down that Son wasted.

Of all the games we play in the league, this is the one I care least about losing. Especially during these circumstances. I'm happy with a 1-0 loss, means that our GD wasn't fucked.

Foyth for me hands down.

Having spent the game loving the fact I felt nervous at no point, and with a very ‘come what may’ attitude, I was actually a little disappointed come the final whistle - think we probably deserved a point without really playing brilliantly.

Anyway, onwards and upwards. We are in a very exciting place right now ?

Everytime I read your ratings mate, I think there's a lot of good points, but generally I think you're overly critical at times.

City might of bossed that game, but you know what, we created more clear cut opportunities than they did, and we're pretty injury ravaged at the moment.

I think that deserves acknowledgement.

Foyth MoTM for me.

Also, we're in a CL semi final and they're not. I can take a 1-0 loss knowing that. COYS

I don't see where I said differently.

Wasting great chances is shit play at the end of it all. Cling onto 'oh that's a pretty good effort, considering...' if you wish, ultimately though we didn't play very well for the most part, despite this still had the better chances at odd moments, and so were masters of our own downfall.

Had we taken our chances we'd of won the game.

Just making the point that they will likely dominate at home, but overall we limited them to few real opportunities, through good defending, and made more clear cut ones than them...

That's not bad, away to them, and they're clearly a level above us.

Not a great game or performance by either side.
We came close once again to the 'best' and most expensive side in the Prem.
who were going for the quadruple until midweek.
On clear cut chances we should have at least drawn
but the sharpness up front was just not there unsurprisingly.

Foyth (7+) my MOM for containing Sterling but tries to play too much football
which is a good fault in a young player.
Gazanega(7) is a decent back up to Hugo.
Dele(6) not really fully with us, but some nice touches,
Eriksen (6) One or two excellent passes but fluffed a good chance.
Son(6+) just off it enough to miss two clear chances
Moura(5) Missed a chance and rarely featured.
Davies(5) against their best player but found wanting. Very ordinary player
Rest (6) tried but the mental and physical sharpness just not there, again understandably.

Need to rest and focus on winning our final 4 games and keeping 3rd.

gutted about that, I know they had the baulk of the possession but we had some very good chances, and scared them. got a bit tasty out there in the end, wonder if some banter was going in about CL. was so pleased to see Rose take out that dirty twat B Silva even if he was the main danger

I must say again I was gutted, but how fucking desperate was Jamie Redknapp :ROFLMAO:

now it's important to finish the season strong
They didn't have the bulk of the chances at all. We made by far the better chances.

Foyth defended very well, but let's not compare him to our other fullbacks, because he didn't even try to attack. Trippier, Aurier & Walker-Peters would have spent - or tried to spend - half the game making runs up the flank to try to get things going for us.

Foyth's brief was to stay back, track Sterling and show him outside, which he generally did with great competence. But he wasn't even trying to play as a modern fullback.

EDIT: to clarify this a bit ... Foyth was given a task that comprised half of the usual fullback's role and he did it very well. But using it as a basis to downgrade the quality of our other right backs is misleading, because he wasn't being asked to attack. He was told to do half the job and he did it very well.

Glass half empty? On balance I saw more positives.

I didn't see the game but listened on the radio, so I can't judge performances very well but I'm pleased to hear that most on here, rate that Foyth and Sanchez played well.
Got high hopes for those two.

Not too surprised about the result, escpecially after the CL exertions but I think we did ourselves proud overall.
The lads must be physically and emotionally drained after this little run, so need to rest and regroup.

We've proved that we can compete with the big dogs.

Not sure what your point is here.
He controlled one of their main
and most dangerous threats
surely the first job of a defender.
Our other defenders
the 'modern' full backs
often expose us to danger
as he did when he was caught on the ball
and negate their positivity.
he's not even a full back
but a converted centre half.

I would not mark him down
for failing some existential test
as a modern full back.

We have no-one of the quality
of the Liverpool full-backs.
