Great defensive display. The back five and Hugo were all outstanding. Must go to Hugo for his great saves and influence on the defensive display

Hugo for me. Great performance and excellent distribution. Made the great saves in the first half which really killed their game plan. Honourable mention to Sissoko and Jan. Hate to end on a negative, but will anyway, Lamela was bloody awful when he came on.

It really is a toss up between Hugo and Sissoko

When Dembele was here, he was the guy that gave you confidence int he middle of the park, the one guy where you knew he would take the ball, protect it and transition from defence into attack - Sissoko has now reach that level, not in terms of skill, but in terms of giving me the confidence and comfort that everything will be ok.

Hugo is just a sexy beast - excellent also.

I think ill go Hugo only because without him we could have been one or two down in the first half.

You know what?

could give it to Hugo, Jan or Sissoko but for me it was Poch

defend, defend and keep defending

so far from the Spurs of old

Love Poch, he's a winner

Lloris 9 - superb.
Aurier 8 - targeted at first, but kept his discipline and started getting forward more.
Alderweireld 8 - just so professional and assured
Sanchez 7 - few iffy moments but he is just going to be a rock in years to come
Vertonghen 10 - world class
Davies 8 - best performance in a while from him

Sissoko 9 - HOW WAS HE STILL GOING
Winks 7 - came back a little early

Son 6 - rest time
Eriksen 7 - better
Kane 9 - everything this guy did was perfect

I had to go Super Jan. Lloris was so close but it was Verts challenge after 10 mins that for me really showed we were in this to battle and he was magnificent throughout.

Lloris was amazing. This is the Hugo that is untouchable.

Sissoko and Kane were superb.

The rest were good and worked for the team. That was great to see, the team back working together. I have missed this team.

I'll keep it short(er) tonight.

On the whole a disciplined display. Dortmund lets be honest looked a pretty average one dimensional outfit, just pass it around constantly with no options to try and pressure a deep defence, and so just sitting deep and compact was the right way to go about it and on the whole we did it well. The first half especially we weren't perfect with it, and we had a 5-10 mins spell where we wobbled badly and should have conceded really, but there was good last ditch defending, people threw their bodies in the way when required, and we got to the break at 0-0.

The goal so early in the second half killed it and broke their spirit. We saw it out comfortably bar a few minor lapses and could even have nicked more on the counter attack in the latter stages. A gutsy performance where we did what we had to do and got through the tie. Great stuff.

Lloris - Made some very good saves when required.

Alderweireld - Pretty solid game.

Sanchez - Few moments where the conversation between the back three wasn't very good, but he made some good blocks when required.

Vertonghen - Couple of crucial blocks, a few dodgy moments along with the rest of the defence but was on hand at the big moments.

Aurier - Was all over the place first half. Got better in the second, but positionally never that convincing for my liking.

Sissoko - Didn't think he started that well actually and was positionally suspect quite a few times. As he frequently does though, got better as the game went on and worked his bollocks off and got his ideal conditions when the game started to really open up late on. Lovely assist for the goal as well.

Winks - Defensively was ok, but went to sleep a few times. When we saw the ball he was a good calming presence in the centre of the park.

Davies - Very solid and little came down his flank.

Eriksen - Not at his best with the ball, but most of our best stuff he was involved in somewhere in the move. Worked hard and put in his shift whether in the centre of the park or out wide.

Son - Wasn't his best night with the ball and did have a great chance (push or not) first half, but he worked very hard and did a disciplined job for the team.

Kane - Not very good for half hour. Offered little running and was poor on the ball. Much better though as the game went on, became that focal point we needed and got a bit of verve back in his game, and showed he needs just one chance with that clinical finish that wrapped up the tie.

Subs:

Dier - Ok. A bit sluggish at times though.
Lamela - Ok.
Rose - Not on for long, but played one nice pass in behind.

Lloris made seven saves today. Has to be my MOTM even though so many players were excellent today.

I though that while our tactic was right in the circumstances, in the first half hour Dortmund produced the best football I’ve seen from an opponent this season and, bar some great saves and brave last ditch defending, the score could have been level on aggregate.

Then we grew into it, Dortmund predictably couldn’t continue at that pace, and we enjoyed better possession, both in quantity and quality. This continued after half time and once we scored, it was an easy game to see out.

Lloris was exceptional, deserved MOTM with some routine saves, some out of this world saves.

Alderweireld was ok, some erratic passes but quite reliable defensively and aerially.

Sanchez used his pace well and read most thing that came towards him.

Aurier was ok, erratic at first but improved as the game wore on. That foul through though...

Davies was solid, he gave us some width going forward and tucked in nicely when defending.

Sissoko started unimpressively but improved and started steamrolling the entire opposition single handedly. Love weight on the assist.

Winks was ok, looked a bit off the pace to me though he did try hard and had some nice moments moving the ball on.

Eriksen knitted most things together, roaming the pitch nicely and dictating our play.

Son was erratic but I noticed and his runs hurt Dortmund more as the game wore on.

Kane grew into the game, played some nice passes and scored a great goal with his only real chance.

I had real fear that we would contrive to lose this like Spurs of old. Luckily the Dortmund we played aren’t the high flyers of late last year. This was a battle between two teams who have the stutters. I think Poch had the right game plan and even though the 5-3-2 looked a little narrow when the FBs pushed up we rode our luck. Hugo MOTM for me. Good saves from great positioning and anticipation and really gave the defence confidence in that awful period when we could have been at least 2-0 down on another day.

Kudos to Harry Kane, Jan and Sissoko. But all round a measured disciplined performance from the team. So proud of the lads. We’ve learned a lot from Juve last season. COYS!!!

MotM has to be Hugo. The goalkeeping equivalent of scoring 4 or 5.

I know in the grand scheme of things it didn’t really matter, but he was faultless. Probably his best performance for us.

Gone Hugo just because he had to be good and was.

Jan was immense.

Sissoko - well, what more can you say? When he's "off" we are lessened. If he could finish - or just be luckier with his finishing - he'd be PFA contention.

Pretty clear that Winks wasn’t fully fit really. Hope the setback isn’t too long.
