Did you, by any chance, ask @Mrs VDV to rate the players on your behalf? :cautious:

A certain somebody seems to be missing from your ratings

Another game we started with the wrong formation and were far better when we changed it. It didn't help that a lot of the players froze, but the formation put them in a position to fail too. First half an hour or so we were 532 and extremely lucky not to have conceded, and our football was awful. We then changed to a 541 and it was no coincidence that we created our only chance in the first half almost immediately afterwards and had our only period where we kept possession.

Second half we were much better. The goal obviously helped a lot, but we had a much better shape than we started with, defended much better as a unit rather than relying on individual bits of defending to bail us out, and we able to pass it through the lines instead of losing it the second it got to the halfway line We conceded only one chance until the very end, and we probably should have scored more with a bit of care with the final ball.

Lloris 8 - Some great saves to stop it going all Spursy.

Aurier 6 - Terrible opening 30 minutes. All over the place and lazy too. Biggest benefactor in the change of formation because having Eriksen in front of him stopped him wondering around and forced him to stay in line with and beside Alderweireld. Good second half with two good passes that could/should have resulted in more.
Alderweireld 6 - Didn't look comfortable in the first half. Better in the second.
Sanchez 7 - A shaky start but made a shitload of blocks.
Vertonghen 7 - Tackle on Reus was better than a goal. Had a couple of other good moments.
Davies 6 - Nothing great. Nothing terrible.

Sissoko 8 - Marvellous second half. Couple of times I thought he was spent but he never stopped.
Winks 5 - Not in the game in the first 40 minutes and didn't offer much protection either. Never got close to their players.
Eriksen 6 - Better after the change. Still not kicking the ball cleanly, but created a couple of good chances nonetheless.

Son 6 - Bit of a tough one. Anonymous in a front two, but that wasn't all his fault. Should have had a penalty and possibly red card for them. Couldn't control the ball half the time it came to him, but made some good runs.
Kane 6 - Held onto the ball too long nearly every time and lost it too much, but took his only chance which helped settle us.
Do you think Poch plays this formation to test our opposition and always has it in mind to switch it back at hlf time or if we concede? Or am I am just making up conspiracies?

Loved our first half timewasting, about time we added some real shithouse tactics as a string to our bow in the appropriate circumstances. You can see why the likes of Burnley do it when they visit Spurs, and it was even more suitable for us last night given that we could have afforded to concede 2 goals and still go through. Yay to us learning some dark arts.

Hugo MOTM but everyone played their part in a fantastic result.

Sissoko keeps this up surely he'll be in the running for player of the season.

I'd hazard a guess it's because we just beat an excellent Dortmund side, keeping a clean sheet in both legs, yet your ratings reflect a 1-1 draw away at Huddersfield.
Don't really see what the first leg has to do with rating players from last nights game. They've also won one game in seven, so aren't the excellent team they were earlier in the season.

We were really bad in the first half. Could have easily conceded at least two in the first 30 minutes and barely strung five passes together. If you think that the first half was good enough and we deserved a clean sheet then fair enough, but I guess I just have higher standards. If we defend like that again I doubt we'll go through in the next round. The second half was a good performance.

If he is, which I doubt it, then he really needs to stop. We've scored one goal in the past twelve first halves and have been trailing in seven of them.

First leg obviously has nothing to do with the ratings of our players last night, but to have held out for a clean sheet, yesterday in particular, was impressive. Especially given the siege on our goal.

I completely agree we struggled until the 35th minute mark, where we suddenly decided it might be an idea to, you know, pass to our own players and then move into space. However, I think some pragmatic ratings wouldn't go amiss when the result itself was superb.

Appreciate you taking the time to respond, though, and I don't begrudge you holding players to such high standards.
