Why? Because rich people don't need to shop at Poundland or fly Easyjet.

Regardless of him being black, if anyone rich and famous is spotted in fucking Poundland, it's making a tabloid and also bring recorded by ordinary people who have to shop there/fly Easyjet to be able to afford what they want.

If I was in his position and didn't want to be in these type of stories, I'd avoid doing the same things.

Rich people can shop however they please and wherever they please. Having some sort of ideal that because they have money they can no longer shop with us 'common folk' ever again is one I do personally reject.

If he wants to buy some new clothes and Primark happen to sell it then let him buy it. He earned the money, doesn't have to be a story behind it. If the flight he wants to go on is covered by easyjet then let him do it.

And for Clarity we're saying Primark not Poundland anyway.

Also I feel this is massively going off the main topic, point is I don't see why this stuff is newsworthy. He's spending his money in a completely fair and rational way so The Sun makes a whole news story about it, calling him tight. He then buys his mum a new sink or whatever and The Sun say he's splashing the cash... he can't win. THAT'S the main point and what I'm alluding to. Now specifically where he shops, whether it be Primark or Greggs or Easyjet or whatever, but how his character is portrayed and that they can't just let him be.

I'm not saying it's right that rich people would be highlighted budget shopping, but it's a fucking fact. This is the world we live in.

Because it's the world we live in should we accept it? Or can we challenge it.

Keeping this on topic and on Sterling and Ian Wright's comments, he's just challenging how the media are portraying him and thinks that there's an element of racism in how he's portrayed and I agree.

Some interesting replies, which is what I was interested to see what other people made of it.

I still don't personally agree that it's racism as likes of David Beckham have received similar hounding and I don't feel colour needs to be bought into it.

They've also enjoyed hounding Wayne Rooney (although admittedly he deserves it lol).

Yes you could accuse the press of unfairly treating him but just because he's black it's racist?

That's what our press do sadly, they lock onto someone and hound them.
The point Wright is making is towards the stereotypical subjects of the negative press that Sterling gets. Such as his alleged "bling" lifestyle, a gun tattoo and then bizarrely the audacity to buy his mum a house with a opulent toilet. The negative press is more about implication and particularly vicious.

Poundland was also a news story, but the point is that's not about Sterling, that's about someone rich and famous shopping with the rest of us plebs!

Right! If he were stealing the clothes from Primark and absconding off to Ibiza in the Easyjet cargo hold then that's a story.

How talented they are as footballers has nothing to do with their characters and there's no jealously whatsoever, if you're so upset about Sterling's treatment complain to the fucking PCC.
And you have a bridge in London to sell me I bet. So your friend formulated his opinion free of any bias or negative emotions whatsoever? If he did he would be the first teenager to have done so in the history of man. I can now see why you hold him in such high regard. Just for shits and giggles can you fill us in on what your friend is doing now.

You asked why he gets a hard time, maybe it's because he's a dick? Maybe its because he wasn't born in England, maybe it's because it sells papers.
I bet it is a combination of all of those and more but the one component we are talking about, and I am sure is part of it, is his race.

Famous people shopping in regular stores is regularly a tabloid news item, you don't have a fucking clue obviously.

Yes, he did. You really have no idea about this person or the situation.

Now I don't know if you're black or white or if you're any good at playing football, but I do now think you're a bit of a dick.

You got me. Totally fucking clueless me. I usually do a better job of hiding it but today you caught me without my normal coping mechanisms and defenses, my cluelessless exposed and flapping in the wind like a pair assless chaps.

Yes, he did.
Of course he did. We have already established that I am a fucking moron without a clue. For me to suggest that your highly esteemed friend, as a teenager, formulated a less than pristine opinion, one that was inchoate and wrought with petty jealousies, of a player significantly better than him and writing his own ticket to fame and fortune was out of line. I don't know what could have overtaken me to suggest such foolishness. But then again we have already established that I am a moron without a clue. I am sorry to have subjected you to my foolishness. Henceforth consider me duly chastened.

You really have no idea about this person or the situation.
No, and you are not further informing of him either. I ask again is he rolling in the dosh playing for a top 6 side? Is he still a footballer?

Now I don't know if you're black or white or if you're any good at playing football, but I do now think you're a bit of a dick.
Yup, as has been well established in Internet-land whoever resorts to name-calling first it is fair to say the other person is being the dick.

What a prick.
Can't imagine why you would think I was a prick let alone state it in a forum of fellow Spurs' supporters. All I have done is clearly accepted and copped to your previous claim that I was clueless - the moron part I added but I can only assume you would cosign that at well.

So what exactly makes me a prick in addition to these aforementioned character deficiencies? I would love to know so that I can add them to my bucket list of personal improvement items. That's actually a sincere request to hear your reasons as to my prickdom.

Sometimes when an argument goes bad, it's best just to leave it.
Still waiting on you to support your claims that I attacked @DJS (he of retaliatory Spam ratings) character in my posts. He is indeed showing his character now. To be clear what I did was give him the opportunity to display his character. Unfortunately for him he grasped it with both hands.

As I said I think sometimes it is best not to get into such conversations.

Fuck me. Someone spending their money in a high street shop isn't news.

Wrighty isn't the first person to suggest that the abuse is racist. Barry Glendenning has been doing it for years.

Also does anyone have the link to the article Sterling wrote about his childhood recently?

You are more than welcomed to PM me with the supportive evidence. As is clear in this thread I have kept a more than level head and discussed a highly inflammatory topic without resorting to histrionics and name calling like others. For you to suggest otherwise, implicitly or explicitly, would be a false equivalence.

Were I a cynical man I would suggest your convenient taking of the high road now may be due to a severe lack of evidence for your baseless claim and a lack of desire on your part to see the actions of a person whose character you supported in the new light under which it is exposed. Luckily I'm not a cynic heh?
