If we were to cement 3rd, who would you want t finish 4th?

I feel dirty saying it, but I think I’d go for Chelsea - hear me out - they have a transfer ban so can’t add to the squad, they may still lose Hazard (prays!), Sarri will probably stay with his stubborn ways, so they will still have the same problems as this season but without their match winner. It could potentially do them more harm than good, their stock will fall and they’ll struggle in the league.

Arsenal need CL, as do Man Utd, to progress/claw back some ground. Missing out would do them more harm.

1 question, if Chelsea finish 4th, and beat Arsenal in the Europa final, with Arse finishing 5th, does an extra place go to them in CL?
If it weren't for Chelsea's transfer ban I would want Man Utd to finish 4th (because fuck Arsenal and fuck Chelsea), but seeing as the ban is in place I agree with your reasoning. (y) Chelsea 4th, Man Utd 5th, Arsenal 6th, please.

The longer Arseanal are out of the CL, the more likely they are to struggle financially & slowly drop further away from future CL qualification.

No brainer, in my opinion.

I only care that it's not Arsenal. Don't think it will make much difference to either Chelsea or United to miss out. Whereas Arsenal will benefit greatly from it.

To answer your last question, no, there won't be an extra place for them. It'll still be only the 4 spaces for league finishes and that's it.

I'd prefer ManUtd at fourth. I'd love it if only Tottenham was a London based top 4 club, I think Solskjær is a likeable chap living his dream and I want him to do well, and long term a stronger ManUtd can mean they too keep taking points off Chelsea and Arsenal, keeping them where they currently are at. I'd rather have rebuilt Manutd than a rebuilt Arsenal.

Man U in the CL is dangerous. They have the biggest budget and with CL football could get any player they wanted. That would probably leave us battling for the last CL place every year. Chelsea on the other hand have a transfer ban and are very likely to lose Hazard this summer anyway, plus Abramovich appears to have lost interest. Arsenal and Man U in the Europa league is brilliant for us as it keeps them pre-occupied with Thursday night fixtures in far flung corners of Eastern Europe whilst making it harder for them to attract the best players, making it easier for us to stay above them.

Utd really aren't such a threat as people are making out CL or no CL, look who they've signed in the last 2 seasons whilst being in the CL and now they are worse off with a manager who is a rookie and players don't really want to play for an unknown manager. Throwing money at the problem in the last few years has just put them in this position in the first place.

I think the concern is they may decide to throw that money in our direction.
Thats what money clubs do.
Anyone who looks good, manager or players, they go in and take them, killing 2 birds with one stone, making yourself stronger and weakening opposition.
Spurs get to a cl semi final... mmmm.... Poch?... Son?.... Toby?....
Their eyes will be in our direction no doubt. We're lucky when they do look our way they see Levy smiling back at them lol.

That's all temporary when it comes to Chelsea. Thinking longer term, one London top 4 team is quite brill!

I'm not concerned about any of ours wanting to jump ship to go to theirs anymore tbh.

I think us being the only London team in next years CL will be extremely unlikely after Utd's loss at Everton. They'd need to win all 4, including beating City and Chelsea just to get to 76. Lose just one and they are back on 73 points which is surely too low.

My ideal scenario for this season:-

PL - City, Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea
CL - Spurs
EL - Valencia/Frankfurt

As long as we get top 4 I think it's been a positive season regardless of further CL progress, but what a chance we have.

If Chelsea slip up this weekend, it'll be a bit Carlsberg.
Lose to City, who may now go on to pip the utterly insufferable Lolerpool fans to the title. United, Arsenal and, hopefully, Chelsea drop points so se keep a hold on 3rd after a worrying wobble.

Considering all the off the pitch stuff plus countless injuries, it has been a remarkable effort from Poch and the boys. Smashed it without Kane, Lloris' drink driving, post world cup fatigue, stadium delays and of course ZERO signings.

Finishing 3rd and CL semi/final/winning it would make it a terrific season. Also got league cup semis as well. We showed on Saturday even with a depleted squad we can match the best and not give in. God I have so much hope and belief in this team nowadays. The future is bright boys and girls.

I read earlier that we’ve lost as many games this season as we did with Sherwood in charge, yet we’re 3rd and in the semis of the CL. Amusing stat.

Not a fan of ‘if only’s’ but.... If only we’d beaten Burnley and Southampton as we should’ve done, we could’ve rested lots of players for the semis, as top 4 would’ve been guaranteed by now. I’m sure our squad will cope for the last few games but an injury to Son etc could fuck us right up. We should be ok though. ?

if we had beaten Burnley and Southampton, we would still need 2 more wins to guarantee 3rd spot

we couldn't of rested that many, because we haven't got many fit enough to rest, they are all in the physio room:cautious:

another trouble with Man U finishing 4th is that there is a very big chance the EL Final will be between Arsenal and Chelsea. I would rather Chelsea finish 4th, and win the Europa (if the final is as predicted).

lets all hope Chelsea and hopefully Man C are banned from the transfer market for at least 2 windows as well

It's pretty amazing really that we're still 3rd after a shocking run of away games. With only 1 away game left and 3 at home we're in a great position. Anything less than 3rd still has to be a disappointment given the gap we created and the position we're still in now. I always fancied our run in because of the number of home games so I'm pretty confident. It will still be tense as hell watching each game though.
