It's not the position I'm worried about, it's our form

No.

I'm slightly concerned that English clubs will win both European competitions.

If that happens, then 4th place in the league does not get CL next season.

It's an outside chance, but one that I want taken off the table altogether.

Optimistic at this point, but let that team be us that wins.

The last time Arsenal fans got all this excited was when they beat us in the league (and went above us from memory) what happened next was that they began losing games. Its quite likely to happen again but they seem to have forgotten all about this. Lets just hope it happens again and really enjoy it if it does

Psychologically I think a point against Liverpool would be huge, given that we would go into the new stadium still in the top 4...(i think)

If we can get a point at Anfield, win all 5 home games and get at least 1 point from Bournemouth/City, I'd say we'll finish third pretty comfortably.

With that said, for all of that to happen, there needs to be a seeeeerious shift in mentality.

Need the same sort of performance as last season at Anfield but our record there is not good , not getting our full backs so far upfield might be a start but Liverpool have pace which is a big worry. I know a lot of people are not keen on Lamela but he chases and tackles which some of our players seem to have given up on , maybe he should start.

Can't believe we have put ourselves in this position. We should be nearly home and dry

Yep, the idea was to consolidate top 4 early so that we could fully focus on the CL... That worked out well

Arsenal have a fairly "easy run in" especially of they go out of the ropey league to Rennes

Newcastle
Everton
Watford
Palace
Leicester
Brighton
Burnley

They don't look as leggy as us and have the motivation of reeling us in to keep them going.

United have a slightly harder run than Arsenal, having to play City and Chelsea as well as Wolves away (proving hard) and West Ham who might turn up.

I don't fancy our chances of a strong finish though. Liverpool and City away is a big fat zero.
We have to hope the new stadium has a positive affect rather than fucking us up as we're up against it now. West Ham will absolutely turn up at 120% for that game. Teams coming are in relegation battles and desperate for points.

It all comes down to if history repeats itself for Arsenal. Their away record is dreadful.

I disagree, I think that by the time we play Palace, Brighton and Huddersfield the league may well be done for them and let’s face it if we can’t beat them anyway then we deserve what we get. Everton will be on the beach and probably in the depths of despair at their neighbours winning the league so again I can’t see why we have anything to fear there. And you know what, the spammers will turn up 120% but fucking hell so can and should we. This is our new ground, what better incentive than to walk out on that pitch and prove to the world that Wembley drained the life out of us as a club and had we been in our home as promised that this season could well have been very different.

People are so quick to point out that Arsenal have the more favourable run in, quite honestly I wouldn’t fancy our chances if we had those set of fixtures and in particular the away games. Newcastle have picked up a bit of form lately and we saw for ourselves just how frustrating they can be away from home. I also don’t understand why everyone is so fixated on Arsenal when Chelsea and Utd are also right bang in the mix.

Make no mistake there are lots of twists and turns still to come over the next month. This is far from over and who knows maybe this prolonged break will actually work in our favour for once.

Another major factor is fixture congestion/ ability to rotate squad . We are undoubtedly the least well equipped to deal with the demands of challenging on more than one front. ( putting aside the unknown/ random effect of injuries). So, the negative effect of doing well in the other competitions is going to be a big factor. If Liverpool go out to Bayern Munich, this will definitely help their League chances. There is ( hopefully) a chance that the 2 Manchester clubs will meet in the FA Cup Semi Final( the final is too late). We probably should be hoping for Arsenal to go through in Europa Laegue as long as they don't win it and perhaps a 2 legged QF with Chelsea would be an advantage. As for us, the likeliehood of a high profile 2 legged CL QF/SF against any of the English teams would be a massive mental and physical call on the players which would almost certainly impact on league fixtures around the same time. I mean can you imagine us playing, say West Ham, sandwiched between 2 legs against Man City or Man Utd. It is almost impossible to simply look at the league fixtures in isolation . It is really only Man City that can consider that they may be able to cope with any degree of confidence

Assuming that finishing 5th and winning the CL still eliminates the 4th place team from the CL, my absolute hope is that we win the CL, finish 5th and Arsenal finish 4th. The only issue is I don’t think I could live through it waiting for it to happen. But fuck me that would be an astonishing scenario.

That aside, looking at the various remaining fixtures of the teams involved, I still have faith we’ll finish 4th.
Hate to break it to you, but that doesn't eliminate arsenal anymore. The only way that would happen is if Chelsea won the EL as well and we won the CL, and Arsenal and Man Utd finished top 4

After a detailed look this morning I’ve come up with this. I’d say we need to be at worst 2/3 pts off 4th after City game and we should be fine. We have by far the easiest last 4 games will be 3 home and 1 away. Arsenal will have the opposite. I’ve given us 7 pts from next 4 and 10 from the last 4.

Spurs 78 pts
United 75 pts
Arsenal 74 pts
Chelsea 73 pts

I have to say as a gambling man I wouldn’t put a single penny on Arsenal in any of their 5 away games. Wolves Watford Leicester Everton Burnley. Where as we will be strong favourites in 6 out of our 8 games.

winning all 5 of our home games i think will be a very tough ask. History tells us that when teams move into a new stadium there is always a settling in period where results don't always go as expected. I think it will be touch and go for top 4 - time will tell.

On another note England play on the Monday which is good news. Although there’s a chance only Kane Dier Rose will be involved. On the other hand Mane and firmino have games on the Wednesday and long trips. Overall we should be more rested and prepared.

Would usually agree with this, however given we were convincingly beaten by Chelsea who had just played 120 minutes in a cup final 3 days prior, i'd say it means very little...
