The league beats the CL - hands down.

The CL is more glamorous but the league is a sign that your team has been consistent and strong throughout a nine month period.

Having said that if we win the CL... it may look better to potential recruits.
Barca and Real Madrid have won the league 49 combined times since the European Cup started and 18 combined CL/EC titles

CL OR PL
As someone once said......THE GAME IS ABOUT GLORY.
nothing more glorious than a last minute Harry Kane goal to win the Champions League. Only just beats Alan Nielsen last minute diving header to win the league cup
The champ lge seems far more important to the continentals . Poss because their leagues are not that competitive. As Bayern 7 in a row and Juve 8 in a row might suggest.

League is more rewarding, CL is more prestigious.

You’re right, but to get to the CL you have to finish top 4 facing all the same conditions you describe. Winning the CL would essentially be a glorious extension of the previous league season.

True

I posted in another thread that to win the CL it actually takes the best part of 2 years and approx. 50 games

I see the merits of winning both. The CL is just way more glamorous, the build up, the fact it is abroad, the attention it gets and the glitz and glamour that comes with it.

The PL i think is a bit more rewarding as Shady boy mentioned above.

One thing is certain, the CL is definitely more exciting.

No doubt for me, after a season of playing Barcelona, Dortmund, City, Ajax and Liverpool, if you crown that with the trophy, there can be no other club trophy out there that would be more amazing.

Inter and PSV too, it's been an incredible run.
To think matchday 4 we conceded early to PSV and looked as good as done and now we're in the final. That's what will make winning it, if we do, so much more special. To me at least, anyway.

Does anyone know how the coefficient points work this season:

Spurs 26
Liverpool 27
Barcelona 30

How ?

So reading the 'small print' these figures seem to include the overseas TV rights.

I think these figures will significantly increase next season, with the new deal that they signed.

Which new deal? There was no increase on the domestic deal.

Ridiculous that Europa carries same amount of points.

It doesn't.

Its a legacy thing to incentivise teams to take the EL seriously and go for wins/draws, especially in dead rubber group games. Plus if you're already on track to qualify for the CL you might take half an eye off the EL last 32/16 as it would hurt your squad fitness, but if you're on the projected 2/3 or 3/4 pot points line, again knowing you can make up serious points by winning games and going further to get an easier draw next season, its an extra incentive.

We never gave the EL a good go, but our cooefcient totals would have been laughable when we first started playing in the CL without equitable points allocation, a system w hich would have just kept the same teams in the top pots for ever and ever. Although we seem to get a group of death whatever seed we are.. Inter in 4th pot ffs! :banghead::ROFLMAO:

It pretty much does by fact someone like Chelsea will win every group game plus they have 2 extra games. As seen that Chelsea and Arsenal have 26 pts this season.

Well yeah? But that's because they advanced far in the tournament. Do you want point reduction because some teams are too good?

I just don’t think a team getting to EL final should have exactly same points as team getting to CL final it’s clearly a lesser competition and seems quite ridiculous. As is the fact they’d go into pot 1 for winning.

So make the Europa league even more pointless then? Sounds like a good solution for the future.

I get your point but it's not easy getting to at least the semi every year in the EL and still do well in the league. If you get far, you get far.

Overseas money goes up 25% next season or something like that think it’s worth about £15m a season more to top 6.

What Coys said

Overseas rights are now the expanding market for the PL

Haven't a clue how much of a market there is out there, but it looks like there is still plenty of growth left in it
