I'm holding on to the fact that the closer we get to the end of the season, the more chance Chelsea and Arsenal are likely to "prioritise" the Europa League and hopefully take one eye off the Premier League. Obviously I'm hopeful we'll still be in the Champions League, but I think our main concern will always be finishing top 4. Arsenal and Chelsea will perhaps deem winning the EL to be an easier route to CL football next season.

It's intriguing, and there are 1000 permutations. I hope it doesn't go down to the final game, that will be nauseating.

Given what happened on the weekend I would say that all those teams are trying their best to avoid 7th place and the ball ache that is the Ropey league.
Surely for teams that size the extra revenue generated from the EL far outweighs the risk of fatigue.

I very much doubt that.

Reading the Everton forum their fans are desperate to avoid it. I haven’t been on the wolves or Leicester ones so can’t say what they are thinking but evertonians are definitely all for missing out on Europa league next year.

Their fans maybe but I wouldnt say the clubs are, Euro football is massive for teams who don't regularly qualify for it.

Am I weird that, as long as it doesn't cause us to not get top 4, I'd prefer us to lose to ManCity in the league to ensure Liverpool doesn't get the title?

Well obviously that’s the dream scenario but needs must now.

If that's the case that's fucking madness. I don't see why they think they can just fast-track their way to the CL when they currently don't have the players, manager, stadium or international reputation. They'll have to do what we did and spend 7 or 8 years grinding in the Europa League before even thinking about hitting the next level.

That's crazy. How can a team like Everton want to miss out on a European competition? Especially as the outright winners get a Champions League place the season after. Absolutely insane that they'd rather not be in it next year

I don't understand that mentality, if you're asking the question. Even allowing for the fact that you've said that your position is contingent on us qualifying for the top 4, what if Chelsea or Arsenal finished in 3rd whilst we finished in 4th? I struggle to comprehend the thinking of a Spurs fan who would care more about Liverpool winning the league than whether Spurs manage to finish above our local rivals in the table. I just don't get that.

I almost think Watford taking at least a point from Arsenal tonight makes too much sense. Have a sneaky feeling the goons might win tonight. Really hope I'm wrong as it could be the difference come the end of the season. Form suggests Arsenal will slip up in 1 or 2 of these tricky away games but you never know with them towards the end of the season.

If we finish above Arsenal I think we'll get top 4, especially as Chelsea and Utd still have to play each other and have some tricky games themselves.

This is what I think too. They can’t keep losing away from home. Mind you they didn’t win away from home the second half of last season, so who knows. It’s the same players in the main who obviously have the same mentality.

You don't understand it because you aren't surrounded by Liverpool fans. A decade ago, I'd have never dreamt that I could hate a team more than I hated Arsenal and then Chelsea. But after spending 10 years out of London and having to work, and socialise, with a load of Scouse twats*, and hardly any Arsenal and Chelsea fans, my hatred of Liverpool has skyrocketed.

*Worth noting that most of these Scouse twats are perfectly decent blokes until the topic of football comes up.

I want us to win every game full stop. Couldn't give a shit what other teams do or win, i don't watch or read about them. It is all about spurs for me. Other teams fans don't even try to have banter with me because they know i couldn't care less what they do.

I fucking hope so - I would love to destroy them. Beating us Is like winning a trophy for those jellied eel eating mugs and they'd dine out on it for years to come. They were the first away team to win at the Emirates and still roll that fact out to this day.

I hate them
And just what, may I ask, is wrong with eating jellied eels?

It's certainly something I'd use to console myself IF City beat us at the weekend, however I'd be delighted if we beat them, or even snatched a draw. Getting top 4 is vital this season and every point helps.

Had we been 10+ points clear in 3rd I probably would have gone along with this.

We are already doing them a favour by knocking them out of the Champions League so they can concentrate on the prem.

Well, you say that, but as you don't know me you wouldn't be aware that I have more friends, colleagues and acquaintances who are Liverpool fans than I do Chelsea and Arsenal fans put together. And I'd still hate Arsenal and Chelsea a thousand times more than I do Liverpool because I'm, y'know, a Spurs fan, and they are my team's traditional rivals.

So basically the only reason you hate Arsenal and Chelsea is because you feel you have to as part of your responsibility of being a Spurs fan and not because of the clubs themselves.

A little from column A, a little from column B. But absolutely, part of the reason I hate them is because I should hate them as a Spurs fan, and that is right and proper IMO.

EDIT - I should add as a qualifier that it's FUN to have a couple of pantomime villains in the meaningless pageantry that is top-level football, and I can't think of any better pantomime villains than the ones that have been in that role for Spurs fans for more than 125 years.
