Im kinda disillusioned these days.
Why cant we just pay players like Toby and Eriksen what they are worth?( in todays crazy football economy).
Do our club think that we can keep players like that on 75k a week for year when they can go to Real Madrid, chelsea, city and so on and get paid 200k a week?
Do we want to win things? Want to establish ourself as a top club?
We want that, but we dont want to pay for top players, give our world class players top contracts.

Just gutted with the loss on sunday, Kanes injury, us not signings any players. Feel like its all about to slip away now.

I think the answer to this is that the new stadium should help leverage wages as it will be at least double the income of WHL, plus we have a chairman/owners who don't believe in paying inflated prices or market forces although they have no problem in getting top dollar out of us fan's and or other club's when selling.
So in all honesty the club's policy isn't going to change to much and we certainly won't see us match city or Utd in wages or fees so we just have to trust the club in what they do whilst in the meantime grin and bear it for better or worse.

The likelihood and all the reports that I’ve read have pretty much said that we’d very much like to give them new contracts at circa £150k a week. Unfortunately neither of the swines will sign them. Not much we can do about that.

While we have proven we can compete on the field, we do not have the revenue stream that City, United, Liverpool have to compete on the wage front. In fact, as it turns out, City doesn't really either and it could cost them CL next year if the investigation into all of the internal emails talking about how they were cheating the system are validated.

We do not have the depth that many of us would like and I think Levy, Poch gambled on getting another year out of Dembele and Wanyama which has not worked out. The position we are in is tough. We need top quality players to compete for playing time with our first team but some don't deem us a big enough club (Rabiot's comment) while others either want to go somewhere where they no they are going to start or that is willing to pay above market value to get them to come in and be a rotation player.

I hope we can figure out the contract issues with Eriksen and Toby because I think, in the long run, it will be cheaper paying them than finding the same level quality somewhere else. However, in order to do that, it reduces the pool of wage money required to bring in other top quality players.

I think for long term, we not only need the new stadium, but we need to really increase our worldwide marketing influence as that is the one area that we really fall behind the other top 6 clubs.

Agree not much we can do if they decide to leave for other club's who pay more and can win the trophies that currently allude us.

Toby originally accepted 130k, then his father asked for more I expect due to the highest earner VVD. the highest when it was 1st announced was VVD but other top CH are on around 150k. the thing is with 130K he gets good bonuses. you have to draw the line or every player will want stupid money.

Eriksen is stalling in hope a bid comes in from RM.

they wouldn't be on those figures if they accepted what they have been offered

I know he hasn't played for ages, but with Mousa going today in addition to all the other bad news we've had in the last week or two, I just can't help but feel like we may be fucked. I don't think we're going to strengthen in either the midfield or forward positions in January, and I think that will fuck us pretty hard indeed with where our injuries/other availability issues are right now. I know that this is an emotional response to Dembele going and isn't the rational way to look at it (or, rather, that selling Dembele alone isn't going to be the straw that breaks the camel's back, even if all my other fears do turn out to be justified), but I'm despondent as fuck about our prospects for the rest of this season, and worried as fuck about the implications of that for the next few seasons to come.

Didn't know where else to post my misery-fest; sorry.

Definitely feels like we're on a knife edge right now. The stadium. Could be that we're destined to lose Dembele, Eriksen and Alderweireld within a few months of each other. Those are big hits to take considering how far we are from competing in this transfer market.

The injury to Kane and Son going has thrown top 4 into jeopardy, when one win against United would've put us as good as there.

Lucky we've got Poch to steer the ship. We cannot lose him -- that is really the be-all and end-all. As long as Poch is still here we'll be OK in one form or another.

Stupid question and i don't mean to maintain or promote a negative vibe BUT can Poch just resign ? Is there any reason why a manager cannot quit, as any of us would/could do to our employer ?

Things really could go south in a hurry for us should the worse thing happen and Poch leaves. Poch leaves, stadium continues to have issues and delays, Eriksen goes to RM and is followed out (for free) by centrebacks JV & TA. Alli thinks f**k this I want a move too etc etc ...

or Poch stays, Harry & Son both come back quicker than expected, stadium issues are sorted and we're in before season's end. JV & TA re-sign for a further 3-4 years and we finish in top 4 ... again. Happy days.

I prefer the latter. ;)

Most high-ranking executive jobs, as well as salesman jobs, have 'competition clauses' written into employment contracts. Basically, if you resign from your role you can't work for any competitors for a stated period of time.

Wouldn't be surprised if football managers have this written into their contracts as well. This is probably why compensation gets paid by the hiring club and why situations like Conte not working for a whole year (or more) come about.

I suppose we have to remain hopeful.

We've still got the ability (and points lead!!) to finish 4th this season, which will mean CL football in the new stadium next season.

Longer term, yeah we might lose Toby and Eriksen, and we've obviously lost Moose, but we may restructure the team and the way we play to solve the problem of losing these players. Basically, try to sign players who compliment each other, making the whole more than the sum of its parts. That's one for Poch to work out.

I'm also hopeful that once the naming rights for the stadium are sorted, this will allow Levy to financially plan with more accuracy and in turn loosen the purse-strings in the transfer market.

I've been critical of our recent transfer dealings and remain so, but that doesn't mean we can't address our failings and go out and sign the 3 or 4 players we need, in the summer.

Got to have faith (y)

Who said that Eriksen or Toby are on £75k a week? Can't find that anywhere.

Don't know if they have been but even so they have both been offered more now on the new contract in which case his point is moot.

I don't know about others but I'm looking a bit nervously over my shoulder at Utd now. The Utd game could prove to be costly in more ways than one with us losing and them bloody injuring Kane. Imperative we win tomorrow.

What makes me hopeful is that Poch has made our team less flaky than previous regimes. We capitulated under Redknapp when in the same situation before. Hopefully we can get through the next few league games till the injury crisis eases.

Hoping for a draw between Goons and Chelski tonight.

This United run can’t last forever. They’re just not that good. One loss will take the wind out of their sails a bit and they’ll have to graft again.

WE shouldn’t be nervous though as we are so far infront. We mess up top 4 now, then the board and Levy have a lot to answer for after the shambolic transfer window. Just hoping we have done enough to cement our place. Win tomorrow and it’s back to 7 points. Surely even Spurs can’t mess it up.

I think I'd rather an arsenal win then following tomorrow's game we should be sitting seven points clear of Utd and Arsenal and four clear of Chelsea which is a better position bearing in mind two of those teams will need to overtake us for us to lose top four.

I don’t know. 7 points is nothing and we’ve got to play away atCiteh, Chelsea and Liverpool. Utd are in terrific form. And we’ve got severe injury problems. If I were a neutral I’d fancy them to do it. Saying that, we have tended in recent years to perform well in adversity, so I’m quietly confident that we can squeak fourth. But it will be tight.

Not for me. Would like to keep the likes of Arsenal and United as far away as possible, so if we do mess up in the Coming few months, it shouldn’t make a difference. We don’t want to give Arsenal any incentive. Couldn’t careless wether we finish 3rd or 4th. Keep United and Arsenal as far away as possible. Chelsea win or a draw.
