My concern would be more of a worry as the set dates are 21/11 to 18/12/2022 (for a team who would go all
the way) but I assume there would also be a couple of weeks when players would be with their national teams prior to the tournament so that is a possible six weeks lost to the domestic team.

This wouldn't affect a team like Arsenal much obviously.

Ah well.
They'd almost certainly not play top flight football for two weeks after the final as well, so if they have two weeks before and two after that's an eight week break right there.

It'll be interesting to see how the domestic leagues and UEFA solve this conundrum, but it should never have got to this.

just boycott the fucking thing. its a debacle. Id rather watch a proper EPL/champions league campaign (and American football) than this corrupt fiasco anyway. if they have the legal power to do it the domestic leagues should tell FIFA to take a hike.

FIFA is so corrupt it almost puts me off the WC completely Far and away the biggest fines levied in this tournament have been against England and Sweden for wearing the wrong socks that conflict with Addidas. They really dont get a crap about fascist banners by the Croats as long as it doesnt offend a sponsor. I wish there was a way for all the national associations to agree to start over under a new umbrella.

On a lesser note .
The rugby tackles in the penalty area should have been dealt with properly from the off at the start of the tournament and not allowed to multiply.

A world cup built on corruption, abuse of migrant workers and that is so disruptive it's absurd?

Of course it'll carry on! Everyone in a position to make a point will bury their heads in the sand and take delivery of hard cash up the rectum. It has been this way since septic bladder and before.

It's why GB haven't hosted it for decades. Pure filthy corruption and favouritism, it runs rife thought all footy governing boards.

Rant.

Fiddling with the dates really isn't ideal. Three weeks early means the season would start around the 20th of July 2022, and end around the 10th of June 2023. Causes chaos with the break overlapping with the minor international tournaments those summers. Wouldn't be surprised if they did something like cancel cup replays, and play the League Cup on European nights with any teams who reach the UCL/UEL group stage not entering it to free up the space instead.

BeIn used to be called Al Jazeera Sports, of course. It's part of Al Jazeera, the Qatari version of the Foreign Office, MI6 and all three branches of an armed forces rolled into one.

Al Jazeera had many competitors for sport. There was MBC (Saudi), ABC, OSN (Dubai), Abu Dhabi Sport.

Then it went and purchased the rights to every single sport event anyone would ever want to watch. Exclusive blanket rights the Middle East as a whole, not individual countries.

The list of rights they have is astonishing, including:

Every single Fifa competition, club and international

Every single Uefa competition, club and international

The tournaments for each other confederation, club and international

Every match from all leagues and all cups for Spain, Germany, Italy, England, France and others I can't be bothered to list: Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Holland. All BeIn Sport

F1

All Grand Slams

Olympics

Boxing

Snooker

Rugby

And a host of other stuff I'm forgetting. Basically, no one in the Middle East has ever ever said "I wanna watch this but Al Jazeera don't have the rights." And that's not hyperbole.

An Egyptian startup and budding rival tried to outbid them for African Cup of Nations coverage. Their bid was rejected despite being $200m over BeIn's.

Other countries have tried to fight back. The two powerhouse emirates of the UAE, Dubai and Abu Dhabi each have their own services, as do the Saudis. But it's like running into a brick wall. BeIn have like 30 channels showing live sport all day every day. There's never a time on earth where football isn't being played and BeIn show everything. Also, it's dirt cheap for whay you get. Something like $130 a year ($180 a year for BeIn Sports 1HD-18HD, another 8 sports channels they spun off into another brand, BeIn Box Office 1HD-6HD, BeIn Drama 1HD-4HD, BeIn Kids 1HD-3HD, plus 59 premium branded channels). It's a masterful execution of soft power. That together with the news outfit, a slightly harder instance of soft power.

But it's clearly corrupt to the core. The Cup of Nations deal and now this.

With the neighbourhood financial blockade pinching Qatar up the arse, BeIn charged $150 for access to the World Cup this year, on top of subscription costs.

I hope they expand to 48 in 2022 and Israel qualifies.
Pretty unlikely. They're only planning to actually increase Europe's representation from 13 to 16, the 48 teams is about getting in more cash cows from Asia, placating the Africans with their large number of votes, and making sure the US don't fuck it up in qualifiying again.

Israel would have a much, much better chance if they joined the Asian confederation, but some of those fixtures would be... politically intense.

You say all that, but were they able to watch Grealish in the championship last season to judge him?

Yes. All leagues and all cups in all those countries I mentioned. League 2 matches not shown in the UK were shown on BeIn.
