It would be pretty sweet to win the league without signing anyone and who knows what this extreme squad continuity will result in? It's never been done before and maybe the stadium will give the players an extra boost.

Not buying anyone shows a great deal of confidence in the squad we already have assembled, particularly the youth players pushing through. I think we could see a real emergence this year of several new stars.

Didn't we lose 3 promising youth players in Madueke, Bennetts and Griffiths ( might end up being 4 if Edwards leaves) and got rejected by 2 other prospects who went to City instead? Maybe Levy and Poch are realizing that the lip service about how younger players will get opportunities is no longer working. Seems like some of these younger players are finding better situations and teams that will give them those opportunities. We can't compete with City/ Chelsea/Lpool etc and spend 60 - 80 mill on a player, so our best avenue is to invest in the best youth talent and have Poch focus on developing them into stars.

What if this is some sick fucking twisted saw-like shit for Levy to secretly get the most out of players to push beyond what they ever imagined?

Just imagine if our 2 cm signings this summer were winks and Dembele. A young England international playmaker who has already shown he can mix it with Madrid. A more experienced pro who on his day can dominate any team, though needs to be used sparingly.

Imagine all you know about these 2 players is you tube compilations and match highlights.

Imagine how excited you’d be...

It’s a real dichotomy.

Pleased we’ve maintained our current crop of talent and hoping that this window signals the more permanent use of our youth prospects.

Downside..we continue to frugally use our youth mob and continue to keep playing the creative vortex Sissoko in midfield.

I’m still slightly surprised that we can’t find a single, vaguely decent central midfielder to bolster our squad. We haven’t got a
Particularly high bar.

Keeping the group together is a good thing.
New contracts for key players and staff is a good thing.

Very disappointing that they didn't land any targets but I am choosing to believe no signings is better than bad, rushed or 'just because' signings. Hopefully January is more productive.

Looking at the squad we are strong in all areas and well covered.

The question is whether Aurier, Winks and Moura step up. They have had a settling in period.

If they perform then we are strong, settled and improving.

The high seas of Spurs chat are pretty rough atm.

I think Winks showed in the CL that he can mix it with the best. Hopefully his ankle is sorted now.

Just after the world cup i rewatched our game against Madrid. The quality of football we offered seemed a light year ahead of what England had been dishing up. We looked fucking magnificent.

AND We have the same team going into this season, Harry, Eriksen, Jan, Hugo etc etc. Yay. Beautful footballers at the top of their game.

Stop shitting your pants. Its a massive fallacy that every team improves every time they open their cheque book, if they did every side ever would be exponentially better than they were 10 years ago. Clearly not the case.
I thought we were great against Utd too only at the end of January. Dembele absolutely bossed the midfield that game. But he struggled for the final few months so everyone thinks he's done  The real reason is he was run into the ground, mostly because of Winks' injuries, his own injuries and also partly the size of Wembley week in week out.

I totally agree, we'll be fine. It will be close again in the battle for top 4 but we've got the quality. Besides a high % of players struggle in the first season and only a small % go on to be great signings.

This is just it, under Enic i think we've just about hit our peak....they're never going to go out and start spunking 70-80m on a player, and thats what it would realistically take to improve our starting 11.
A lot of people just struggle to accept that.
Even if we'd signed Grealish i dont think he'd even make the starting 11, he's hardly going to make up the 25? point difference between us and City.
I kind of disagree with that. I still feel that our project will work. We don't buy world class players like Mourinho does, we sign prospects for Poch to make world class. So it's more a case of continuing to buy smart and that's where we've failed lately. I still think there's great deals out there and always will be. We should be signing the best young prospects all the way down to the academy and continue every season. I hope that we at least strengthen the academy some more now the window is closed.

I don't think we should be spending 75m on Zaha for example. We should discover them young like we did with Alli. Most of our best players were not that expensive in the respective markets at the time. With Sanchez aside most of the big money deals have failed us in the past. Let the rich boys spend silly money and us to continue producing great talent with less spend. I love that we're different. I just hope we continue because it just feels we've taken our foot off the gas a little of late.

I think its just a bit romantic mate.
I'd like to win stuff, and there's a reason the clubs who spend the most hoover up all the trophies.
I think with our current model the best we could hope for would be a league cup or facup, and to win either takes a fair bit of good luck.

Hey, there's a match tomorrow and that always makes me happy. Appreciate the thread, too - its far too depressing around here lately.
