What are you? YES for optimistic and NO for negative, please.

I'm quite optimistic, personally - that will come as a surprise to 8ers :)

Too many (everywhere, media, not just here) asking if will have second season syndrome but none asking if he can improve.

Improvement through experience from young team.

Genuine alternatives in places we had none last season - like, for instance, Pritchard can come in for Eriksen, where last season we had no real like-for-like alternative.

Defence added to and will hopefully improve.

A genuine full-back on the right this season - and in Trippier we have one noted for his end product which should benefit Kane.

Pochettino in his second year.

Additions up front undoubtedly to come - okay, you can optimistic rate me for this one :)

Exciting youth products breaking through.

Our rivals have strengthened, true. But we have all seen how deceptive that can be - and not just with ourselves. So the question to my mind is will we improve enough/as well as our rivals. Personally, I would hope that 5th is again attainable and maybe/hopefully a trophy.

And please, people, lets not descend into abuse of anyone who holds the opposite viewpoint. I respect anyone with a negative opinion, just so long as they respect my right to hold a positive one, and I will consider their arguments and just as that they repay the favour :)

I'm optimistic although wonder if will be like season under Harry a few years back after we'd qualified for champions league previous.

We weren't too good in first game as had no forward and Modric had been angling for a move to Chelsea all season so didn't play.

Then by second game we'd got Adebayor on loan and Modric back in team and kicked on.

Fast forward to present and we need to get that vital engine room midfielder in to really complete the team and hopefully some more attacking options.

Defence wise we're a LOT stronger now so that is a major positive, just hope Poch knows what he's doing picking Walker over Trippier for first game, hope to be proven wrong...

If first half of the Utd game is anything to go by we'll dominate possession in most games but lack the required snap or pace to hit teams on the back foot before they get into shape.

We'll win more than we lose but passing around the back and soooo many passes back to gk will result in the occasional sloppy mistake that gets punished.

Flatter to deceive with little cutting edge

If we don't add any half decent element of athleticism in attack, we're in trouble. Fortunately, I remain confident that is in the works, so as of now I'm leaning with optimistic.

That poll makes no sense.

:) That's not entirely fair. It does make some sense: YES = affirmation = positive = optimistic; No = negation = negative = pessimistic.

But I take your point, and have done what I can with the editing tools available to make it more sensible.

In my own defence, as you will see if you look at the thread heading in SpursChat, I was desperately trying to get it completed before kick-off at 12:45 :)

But, my bad :(

Pessimistic as things stand. If we sign the right players before the window shuts then we'll see.

Don't worry about it. :D

Oh, and ps, I'm a 'no'.

I'm very optimistic because (as opposed to previous seasons) I've completely gave up on us finishing in the top four. 5 or 6 in the league and a goood run in one of the cups (EL preferably) and I'll be satisfied.

I'm always optimistic, I consider myself to be the ying to @iluvsteffenfreund suicidal yang.

We need some quality in midfield, up top and out wide but I'm very excited to see the kids come through. For me, I would take 6th and a cup run if it meant that 2 of Winks, Onomah and Pritchard established themselves as first team players.

I think this thread is a few weeks premature, I won't know how I feel about the season until we know whether we've addressed the lack of pace in attack and brought in a genuine defensive midfielder or not.

The problem with finishing 6th is we face losing our best players as the next crop come through. And we go back to square one. How about sign the 3-4 players that give us a real chance of getting top four and bring this club champs league football as we look to move into a new stadium ? It was the same last season when top four was begging to be taken yet we didn't buy when we needed to. Same old this year. So close but same old Spurs

Thought we played well today, and deserved at least a draw, so yes, optimistic. However we could definitely do with some attacking options on the bench.

Not really.
You have the options of Don't Know and Goat. Either one of which (especially Don't Know as you are saying you don't know) would cover your doubt.

On top of which, I left the poll open for two months, so you would also have the option of waiting until the TW is closed.

On top of which, in my OP, I specifically state that I am optimistic on the basis that I believe we will make more signings and, from what we have seen so far, I believe they will be good ones. This is only one component of my optimism, but I am prepared to make that call - the 8ers can wait until the end of the season, when we finish 15th with no cup runs and berate me for being a delusional twat on the basis of my absurd optimism. You could have made a post taking the same tack - either saying you were optimistic with the same reasoning as me, or pessimistic because you don't believe we will make the right signings, or any signings at all - and with the other options (Don't Know and Goat) still available.

I'm realistic enough to understand that, until we're in the new stadium, it's beyond our spending power to chase top 4. I'd rather bring the kinds in so that, when we're in the new stadium, we can spend the extra money in 1-2 star players. We can develop £20m players here so let's do that rather than spending £20m on them. It's only 3 years away, I reckon Levy will keep hold of all the stars until then when we can truly compete.

Negative at the moment
Big transfer profit and squad massively lacking, as usual
Team didn't play great football last season and nothing today looked different
Need a cm, attacking winger and a forward desperately

Beyond merely the voting options, I just don't think we can have an informed discussion of the outlook for the season until the questions hanging over the squad have been answered. This is an interesting thread for sure and I'm glad you've started it, all I'm saying is that we'll all be able to weigh in from a better vantage point once the window has closed.

No.

Because we don't have the money to compete with the big boys. At best we get a few starlets that shine and will most likely get sold when bigger clubs come in. Nothing will change until the Stadium is built. Wouldn't be shocked if ENIC then sold us.
