We shouldn't off high and hugh contracts, but as the team rises up the ranks we should improve contract to incentivise our performers to stay put.

It also means we're out of the running for a certain type/level of player - which is obvious. And those players probably wouldn't fit in with the group, either.

Doesn't mean the right player isn't out there. Just means that Chelsea, City, Man Utd, PSG can overpay and that's fine. I would have added Barcelona and Real Madrid too, but players going there are going for the prestige as much as the money.

The thing that sickens me about all this is our players are on huge wages. The fact that this is recognised in the endless battle to pay the highest is sad in a country that has such a thing as foodbanks. You can add the Sky Sports News totaliser to that too. Seeing that figure rise every six months while Jim White shoots his load is just obscene.

This is soo true. We are talking as if 50 thousand pounds A WEEK were a pittance. That's 200k a month - 100 k after tax. I am pretty certain that you can afford a tin of baked beans and a box of wheetabix for that.
I remember when Shearer was the best paid player at 48k and we were already having trouble to fathom the amount. Now he would be called a pauper.

The moment for me was John Barnes hitting £10k a week. That is a phenomenal amount to your average Joe but it was nearly 30 years ago now.

This is a reason I'm sort of turning away or put off, not sure how to describe it, from football and professional sports... The money is sickening, wasted on the most unimportant things... And people just blindly accept it so nonchalantly.

Our players are still paid obscene amounts of money, but I'm mildly happy we don't partake in the circle of clubs which lead this idiocy.

I remember reading about Ashley Cole turning down Arse's offer of £55K per week soon before he joined Chelscum. When he was told about the offer, presumably by his agent, his reply was that they were 'taking the piss.' In the real world, most of us would be happy if our employers took the piss out of us to the tune of £55K a year.

Theres more to that story than that. Arsenal made an offer which he was willing to accept then when it was on paper it was £5K less. Most would reject that situation.
