they never did rule it out. We all know Harry will do his nut in to play any and every game

Well, no one is saying this, so I will - since his return from injury we were pretty woeful, barely scoring anything. He comes off injured against city and we score one, put 4 past Hudd and 3 past city again.

I reckon even if he were fit, we have been playing so much better without Kane of late.

Sorry, but I'll call it how I see it.

No need for apologies pal. A few of us have discussed that very subject since his return from the last injury. How we won every match without him, Son was on fire & Eriksen came back to life.

Kane was instantly reintroduced to the starting line-up as soon as he could walk again & our performances instantly dropped off, Son stopped scoring again, Eriksen went back into his shell & we went on our worst league run for something like a decade.

He IS our best & most important player BUT things change when he's brought back into the team after being absent. There's a freedom in the players when he's not the focal point.

I think it's a bit more simple than that, i think each time he comes back too early. and it's harming his body. His sprint speed has dropped (as have his attempted sprints) markedly, and some people say it's him adapting his game, or learning how to cope with extra attention from defenders. I just think when he plays up top ATM (and also after the last two injuries) he is second to most things, his shots get blocked more than ever, and he can't get away from markers like he used to.

When Kane came into the team, to feel he belonged there he worked his nuts off, barely stopped running, harried defenders, and i feel that made him a sharper player, he's never looked "quick" but a little bit of sharpness with his technique and strong running style saw him get away from defenders you would say were faster than him. It just doesn't happen now, and that's why i think he is dropping deeper, and we know he can spot a pass and has great vision too, but it's not the same, and more mobile players can do that.

I hope with a real rest he can come back refreshed and have that extra speed again...

Wonderfully explained. Pretty much impossible to disagree with a single word of it & I really hope you're right about coming back refreshed.

One thing though. Assuming you're right, what do you think explains the drop in form & goals from Son (and the team) when Kane returns from injury? We need to solve that issue.

Maybe it confuses the role of Son, Moura and Eriksen. I mean if Kane is dropping deep but not being told to, then his role and others like Eriksen also have to change, Harry coming into Eriksen's space and taking away an option at the same time, and Son, now the furthest forward but not centrally, has more markers due to Kane's absence.

The real answer is i don't know, but it could be as simple as Son just thriving on that extra responsibility, which wouldn't be a bad thing.

Certainly the extra mobility makes us more fluid going forward though.

Yep pretty much mirrors my own thoughts. Eriksen, Son & Moura all seem more 'free' when the figurehead is absent and, as you say, the extra mobility & fluidity going forward is obvious to see.

I really hope Poch can figure the conundrum out.

Is this our Coutinho moment?
Can’t believe I thought that let alone wrote it!
I’ll go and get me tin helmet.

You're just voicing your opinion/asking a question mate. No need for a tin hat (or shouldn't be).

I'm not sure if it's our Coutinho moment, but I genuinely don't think it can be argued that we're much more free & fluid when we have to play without him, and other players do perform better.

The coaching team have to find a way of figuring it out otherwise it 'could' end up hindering us & stifling the players around him.

It should, in my opinion, ALWAYS be team first.

There’s another opinion on that here..

Thanks for that.

Annoyingly though, it says that the players who perform in his absence (Son in particular) should not be intimidated when he plays & should just take the same responsibility they do when he's not playing.

Unfortunately that doesn't take into account the possibility that 1, Kane is going to be in the areas that they'd exploit in his absence.

And 2, the possibility that Poch instructs them to play through Kane, with him as the focal point/talisman.

I just hope we find the solution to a problem we didn't seem to have 2 seasons ago with exactly the same players.

It's weird.
