A big part of Ferguson's success was due to his intimidating character and foul temper. The FA, officials, players and other managers were all intimidated by him.Add to that the media continually blowing smoke up his arse for 20 years plus their spending power and it's a recipe for success.
Agree.

He was an incredible manager but as a Spurs fan, I always thought of him as a really annoying purple faced arse. A bully, intimidating, refusing to do BBC interviews for years following an investigation into his son, buying up all competitor's best talent (like Milan used to do for years).

He was able to achieve this because his initial brilliance as a coach and manager giving him the success he had timed perfectly with massive amounts of TV money that created an almost unassailable brand. Until Wenger and his knowledge of the French league, there really was no stopping him and in the end it took a Russian billionaire then an entire OPEC state to unseat and compete with them.

Seriously?

Isn't there literally a statue of him at Old Trafford, meaning it's unlikely he'll ever be forgotten?

Most Spurs fans under 30 wouldnt be able to pick bill nic out of a selection of photos. Unless you do something truely epic like julius caesar, and get stabbed by your mates (apocryphal or not) history is more than likely to forget you.

Yes, perhaps in 2000 years people will have forgotten about SAF. Wasn't thinking quite that far ahead!
Both my kids know about Bill Nick - the Spurs magazines and membership packs usually feature all our history.
And given most of today's Man Utd fans know who Matt Busby is, I'd have thought SAF will last at least a couple of generations!

What history? Pochettino"s? Was he ever the central figure behind a club reaching the next level? A club the size of Tottenham?

At this stage no, he is still in the early years of his managerial career. Of course, there is always a possibility may never rate along with the greats. However, Rome was not built in a day and neither did Fergie make his reputation overnight. Poch is only part way along what may well be a long auspicious career and that career is showing signs that THFC could be that club.

I would love to see him do this given the chance. So far, imo, he has achieved wonders on a shoe string and has not yet been given the funds or players to be able to judge how good he could be coaching a squad of Marquee players. I trust in him and believe that given the chance he is more than capable of leading us back to those Glory, Glory days.
