Foyth came out with some credit yesterday despite his daft mistake for the goal. In a cauldron of intensity, he displayed the skill, touch and calm that could develop into world-class talent. But he is a bit too casual at times, and we pay dearly for it.

The problem from Poch, IMO, is that Toby Alderweireld is the first name to fill a centre-half spot on the team sheet. And then he should choose his other options from that point. Vertonghen had a nightmare yesterday and maybe the intensity of this game came too soon for him.

Stretching it a bit far Poch, but I thought he did way better than Vertonghen. Of course, everybody and his dog seems to know for certain that Toby would have played a blinder.

That is the price (penalties, giving the ball away) we have to pay for developing a future world class player......Chelsea, Man City, Man U, all pay big bucks for the finished article we (Potch) at this moment in time have to develop players.

This is why Poch is a great manager. Foyth made an expensive error, he's young, he'll learn from it. Few of our players played well in the second half. Poch putting the big arm around his young player is EXACTLY the thing Sir Alex would have done with one of his youngsters back in the day. He's kept putting his arm around Sissoko and incredibly to some of us (most of us?) he's found a player at last.
As long as a player is trying hard I'll forgive him. Let's get behind our young players and help them develop with confidence not fear.

Vertonghen made one tackle to Foyth’s seven, and two clearances to his six. He also gave away a penalty and got sent off. Not sure Juan did too bad

Exactly. The problem is that people are so blinded by the fact that Poch picked Foyth instead of Toby that they can't (or won't) see that he did a lot better than Vertonghen. You can forgive Vertonghen for not being 100% after a long lay off but even so, he had a very bad game, compounded by the red card.

I usually agree with Poch but maybe this praise is over the top. He had a decent game, yes there was one big error but without an unlucky deflection we'd have got away with it. Got to remember he's a kid far from home and this was a massive game when he's only played a handful of times. All things considered I was pleased with him, no worse than Vertonghen alongside him. One day Sanchez and Foyth could be a good defensive combination.
