Mauricio Pochettino has taken Tottenham to back-to-back top-three finishes but can he take the next step and win a trophy?

I think we need a trophy. For no other reason than to materialize the strides the club has made in the last few seasons. We missed out on the FA cup last season, which I write off to cup jitters as there were some horrendous mistakes in that game. The odds are stacked against us this season as we will not be able to continue our unbeaten record at home this season. But between the FA Cup, English League Cup and God forbid, the Eurpoa League we need to add to our trophy cabinet. Also, if we don't start winning trophies some of our key players will become disillusioned, no matter how tight the team is. Perhaps not a necessity for this season but definitely once the stadium renovation has been completed.

We do need a trophy but It's going to be tough. Poch' coaching of the quality we already have vs the multi million splurges of everyone else.

Quite frankly, imho, the EPL consists of two types of teams.

There are the 4 money clubs who purport to be an English EPL team but are nothing of the sort. They are owned by foreigners, filled with foreigners and reflect nothing of the club they have hijacked. I wouldn't support them even if I was born and bred there and lived all my life there. For situations like this you might just as well support Barcelona or Real Madrid if all you want is to follow a wining team.

Then you have the other clubs who struggle to compete on this unlevel playing field who do not have the means to spend on world-class mercenaries who show no loyalty but just go to who pay the most. At least they make some effort to bring on English or British players through their academies and to retain something that reflects the club.

At least THFC have resisted this 'buy success' route and, to their credit, have actually found a way to compete with those who simply buy success. The bookies may have us behind the 2 Manchester clubs and Chelsea to win the title and, who knows, they possibly may be proved right. But I have this sneaky feeling that there are going to be be many red faces come the end of the season when Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino will have proved them wrong.

I have been really happy with the last 2 seasons. There has been very clear progress resulting in 3rd and 2nd place finishes.

Some of my friends bring up the trophyless side but when you see your side progress so much you don't mind it.

But that only lasts so long. We want to be successful and that includes winning trophies.

There was a LC final and am FA Cup semi with a 2nd place finish. I reckon this year we will get one of the LC or FA Cup. But the target has to be the league. And PRIORITISE the CL. None of that laid back shit from last year. Go out there full throttle.

Finishing first would give us a trophy, so would finishing seventeenth and winning the FA cup.

I'd rather finish in the top three for the next two seasons to stabilise our footballing and financial position, until we can afford the top players once we're in the new stadium

Not sure we'll be able to afford the top player's in the next 5 years. It's the wages that will prevent us. Can't start giving anyone 150k a week without resigning our entire first team on those wages at the same time.

And 150k is no longer TOP money unfortunately. That's Liverpool wages, not manchester or chelsea wages.
