Spurs finally return home this evening with Mauricio Pochettino's side taking on Crystal Palace in the Premier League. It has been nearly two years since the team's last game in N17 but the long wait is finally over much to the relief of everyone connected with the club.

Poch becoming far more vocal in stressing the need to kick on to the next level.

Find the cheque book Daniel,

Somethings gonna give, Gulp!

Footballers have two levels to them:

The kid who has dreamed of playing on the big stage- we've addressed that with training ground and stadium
The commodity who's been programmed to grab money fast- we now have to address that in the way that many clubs already are.

Whilst I'm not entirely comfortable with Spurs shifting the model too much and just splashing cash on anyone that looks good, it is common sense to say that now we have to raise our game to match the environment we have created.

Also, the media and most fans to an extent have forgotten that Poch came in and was given the job of steadily building a contending team whilst also navigating the tricky waters that came with the new stadium project. He had to keep the team settled whilst moving to Wembley, whilst moving back again and mostly whilst finances took a hit.

He has done that brilliantly, and anyone who criticises the job he and the squad have done in that time have clearly lost sight of where we were before that.

So yes, now we have moved in that can no longer be part of the project. The next part is to make the stadium home and a breeding ground for success.

We can’t sit back and jerk off on the stadium achievements yes it’s fantastic and speaks for itself just like at it ffs. Now is the time to really invest in the team squad. If we get the right players in to challenge on all fronts we save in the long run.

I think we should not fight in the transfer market whilst fooling ourselves thinking we can attract well-known, proven and firmly established players. We can't, we won't, and the stadium won't change that, at least for several seasons more. The type of player I'd be hopeful to attract with more ease, is the sort-of-established player that is somewhere between being well-known and un-known. In other words, still take punts, but be able to take better punts on better players who are more likely to make it. As just one random example of the top of my head, I'd point to Martial when he first transferred to the PL in 2015. He was sort of known, but also sort of little bit of a gamble. Or for instance our own Vertonghen when he first came in 2012, or Eriksen in 2013. That's the kind of signing I'd like to see us pull off more often. Splash the cash a little bit easier, for way better gambles, with more of a predictable trajectory.

It's always a case of "well if spurs want him, he must be good so we'll (Mancs/Chelsea) get him" - and offer extortionate wages.

Case in point, right?

Yes, sort of.

As a club, we're now in a much different place to where we were those years ago when we were initially interested in Martial. We clearly pay our players more now, we compete at a higher level now, consistently, and we're surely a much more attractive proposition to what we were back then?.

I do agree with your point, re not getting involved if the real big boys want a player we're interested in. I just don't believe we're as unrealistic a proposition as we were back then.

I'm obviously not a pro footballer, but I could understand why we may be an extremely attractive option for many a quality player.

Onions.
