Its the hope that keeps ya going lol. You're still young mate. I'm 71 and don't know how long I can wait.
Good post and agree for the most part.Priority has been establishing ourselves as one of the big boys so we can attract the best players and pay the big wages.
In order to do that we needed:
I’m in no doubt that we will win trophies over the next 10 years but it’s ridiculous to hammer the club for failing to win trophies over the past 10 years when we’ve not had those foundations / players and been competing against massive teams who can spend over double the amount on wages.
- Bigger ground
- Regular Champions League football
We now have a team that is competitive and once the new stadium money starts coming in we’ll be able to offer competitive wages too (which we can’t at the moment).
It takes years of practice ;-)It seems I was right that the malcontents tend to be older men.
I bet he's gutted. If he'd have not expected us to go ahead and win the CL (for some reason I can't yet figure out) and not shat on the domestic cups, to that end, devaluing them (which translated to the players), we may well have faired better in both.
We can't go struttin' around like billy big bollocks until we actually win something/things.
I'm all for talking up the team, but in no way agree with talking cups down, especially when we're desperate for any sort of silverware to build off of.
Poch thoroughly pissed me off with that, and I'm still fucked off with him for it.
An island of sanity in The Sea of Melt, that's what your post is.Priority has been establishing ourselves as one of the big boys so we can attract the best players and pay the big wages.

But we're unable to attract players at the top level of the game as we don’t offer the wages needed. There’s a reason we’re not in the conversation to sign players like Pogba, Griezmann, Lewandowski, Mertens, etc...I disagree, we have had the money from the sale of Bale to have “those players” already here. Our use of the £90m received has been appalling; an abject failure on the poor return of player quality
Pochettino wasn't around when all that money was spent and that amount now wouldn't buy a lot. We may have spent lots of money, but there was no solid basis to the club. Winning cups is less important than changing the laughable mentality that has been there for decades.I disagree, we have had the money from the sale of Bale to have “those players” already here. Our use of the £90m received has been appalling; an abject failure on the poor return of player quality. Only Eriksen at a steal £11m has proven good enough to make a difference. Yes, a bigger ground and regular CL football are pluses, but to deliver what we all want (trophies) we must make better choices from the funds we accrue on the field.

We currently shop in the ‘potential’ basket rather than the ‘top of their game’ basket. Which is why for every Eriksen there’s a Paulinho, for every Alli there’s a Holtby and for every Sanchez there’s a Fazio...
The only way to change the type of player we can attract is to establish ourselves as a regular CL team and to increase our income so we can afford the higher wages needed to sign them.
