Players' Belief

This morning, on my daily trawl through newsnow and our very own transfer rumours forum to see the next 'world' star we have been linked with and which have 'publicly' turned us down (and all the associated moodswings that entails!), I realised something:

When you look beyond the transfer rumours and start to read about some of the other noises actually coming out of the club, I really think we are starting to see permanent changes in the mentality of our current crop of players. For instance, the tone of statements made by the likes of Jenas and Zokora inbetween games seem to carry more intent, and even Aaron Lennon has started to make encouraging statements (I noted with interest today his comments about more faces in the gym - he even implied that his only potential challengers for pace over 100m might be Darren Bent and Gareth Bale - the latter may surprise a few on here! - source Goal.com UK).

I, like many, believe that the team would have capitulated under the weight of expectation had the second leg against Arsenal taken place under the same circumstances last year, but this year the players seemed to thrive on it, and visibly grew as the game went on.

Whether we sign anybody else this window or not, the most encouraging and important change is in belief, and an enormous amount of credit for this must go to the management team. In particular I think we will see more and more of this reflected in our away performances - hopefully starting today! Long term, I for one now finally believe that this team will actually achieve much of their obvious potential together.

It's my first real post & my apologies if much of this has been covered in other threads already.
