On the whole our transfer business has a decent success rate, but we can't for love nor money buy ourselves a decent striker. If I was being liberal I'd probably say Adebayor was our last relative success, but in terms of real successes I think you'd have to go back to Berbatov.

Thank fuck for Harry Kane.

Defoe didn't light the world on fire but I think it would be harsh to say he wasn't a success.

Definitely in his first spell, but that was before Berbatov. His second spell was more mixed and probably on par with Adebayor if we're objective rather than sentimental.

Levy is genuinely the world’s best chairman at flogging deadwood and unwanted academy products. Unreal how much money he gets out of it.

Of course, he’s the one who bought that deadwood in the first place. But still!

We weren't saying this last summer when we couldn't sell anyone...

I try to never think of last summer for many reasons. But I think Levy’s record on this has been very good over the years. It’s not the most thrilling stuff, but it adds up over the years.
  • Wimmer: £18m
  • Trippier: £21m
  • Bentaleb: £16m
  • Chadli: £13m
  • Pritchard: £8m
  • Carroll: £5m
  • Townsend: £12m
  • Stambouli: £6m
  • Paulinho: £12m
  • Livermore: £8m
  • Holtby: £5m
  • Fryers: £5m
  • Caulker: £8m
  • Dempsey: £6m
  • Naughton: £5m
  • Mason: £10m

Great post. Paulinho was with hindsight "the one that got away" but just look at how much money has been squeezed from total dross - £17m for Kevin Wimmer!!!?!!? A man deemed too lazy and too fat for a club [Stoke] that got relegated.

Best of luck to him, shame it didn't work out.

I agree our hit rate for strikers is pretty poor, yet the ones we get right seem to be more than decent. Berba' was an outstanding bit of scouting absolutely blu-printed and made to be a Spurs forward, that lot in the North who kidnapped him never got the best out of him he was wasted up there.

But that's a discussion not for this thread probably.

ya but to be fair we've not bought many strikers since Ade. Soldado was a bust but who saw that coming? Llorente, Soldado and Janssen are the only true strikers we've brought in since Ade.
