And the manager that pushed for him? :watching:
Gunna cut Poch a bit of slack in this one. We were reportedly wanting morata but he didn't want play second fiddle to Kane. We then went for Batshuayi who got snatched by Chelsea. It felt like we had limited options, so all probably felt a punt on a good goalscorer who can hold the ball up would be a risk worth taking. Unfortunately his dreadful start has set the tone and he must feel pretty inferior to Kane.

I reckon if he'd have joined someone like Palace he'd have been well worth the value for them.

He’s English.
Late reply. I agree English players are more expensive which makes it worse that Bournemouth felt shelling out 20m for a player who has hardly scored was good value. They could have gone to Europe and got much better value

Surprises me someone like Celtic haven’t come in for him. Pretty sure he would score goals for fun up there. Given he only has 12 months left and barely played for 18 months would think £8–£10 million would be fair price for him maybe with sell on clause and add ins attached to any deal to maybe take it up to potentially £12-£15 million.

I am far from in the know, but it does strike me as a little odd that a striker with a good record in the Eredivisie and no small amount of ability, does not attract offers from teams just across the channel. I would have thought he was worth a go for a team of Anderlecht or Lille's (two random examples) standing. Very curious that we are led to believe that he is entertaining offers from Mexico - does this not suggest some deeper intrigue behind the scenes??

When I mentioned this a while back, someone pointed out that wages are significantly lower in other European leagues. It may be the case that teams that would be interested simply can't afford his salary.

This was from a BBC article last year:
The £2.6m average for a Premier League player is more than double the equivalent figure in the German Bundesliga (£1.26m) and France's Ligue 1 (£944,4075). Players in Spain's La Liga earn an average of £1.68m annually, while the figure for Italy's Serie A is £1.33m.

This is why it’s ridiculous when you hear fans saying ‘just pay what they want and get it done Levy’ about players. Because there is always a chance signings like this and GNK could flop. So giving them high wages then means we’re stuck with them as clubs at their level can’t afford to take on their contracts.

I presume the average wage in Scotland is significantly lower again (someone earlier suggested club's like Celtic should be in for him).

Janssen is reportedly on £34k p.w. (£1.768m p.a.)

We are not gonna get anyone to pay for Janssen. We have to write him off and just get him off our wage list.

Scottish average is £3.4K a wk, Celtic average is £16.6K.

Dutch average is €5K.

It's a shame his loan spells have blown. Even bigger shame he passed up an oppotunity to go to Brighton on loan.

Jesus, this is pretty embarrassing for the scout that recommended him. An absolute disaster of a transfer.
Didn't Paul Mitchel provide notice he was leaving for Liverpool shortly before Janssen was signed? We signed NKoudou that summer too, ha.

And Wanyama & Sissoko... what a summer. A grand total of 2 useful seasons out of 4 players.

Could have been worse. Could have repeated what we did with the Bale money and signed seven players only one of whom ended up being a long-term starter for us.

I don't have an equivalent dislike for Janssen (because, unlike Corinthians' finest, he's not a lazy coward on the pitch), but I have to admit that I'm reaching Paulinho-levels of just wanting him to get the fuck out of our club now.
