Original source is from HLN, who are normally very reliable.

"We are almost there," said Michael Verschueren about the transfers, after the match on Saturday at RWDM. One of the names that purple-white has in mind is that of the 25-year-old Dutch center striker Vincent Janssen. Janssen was removed from AZ by AZ in 2016, but was unable to break through immediately. He was lent to Fenerbahçe, but there too the 17-time Dutch international had a hard time persisting. "

People putting 2 and 2 together and making 5 though. The guy has said they are almost there but that's not an answer to a question about Vinny. It's just about them doing business.

I honestly don't understand why teams from Holland and other slightly 'lesser' European leagues wouldn't be interested in him. He banged in the goals in Holland, he's still relatively young and even though he's failed at Spurs, his all-round game wasn't terrible, it was just the lack of goals. Feels like one of those players that could easily go abroad and recover his goal-scoring touch.

I wonder if his wage is what's putting people off? I can't imagine we're asking for too much in terms of a transfer fee.

Yep, it's wages. The average wage in the Eredivisie is less than £5k a week. Even the star players at clubs other than Ajax and PSV get about £10k tops. The best paid played in the league is on about £45k. And Janssen must be on at least £30k with us. He's too expensive for anyone who isn't in a Top 5 league or a regular European participant, and hasn't proven himself to be good enough for anyone that is.

Same with GKN. The wages are the hangup and my guess is Levy doesn't want to subsidize in order to transfer.

Yep - subsidising doesn't make much sense unless you can't even find a loan move like we did with Fenerbache. Hopefully the Schalke rumours are true and we can get the whole of his wages gone plus recoup a small fee. I'm sceptical of Anderlecht though - a couple of years back their average wage was apparently £10k a week, and they've just had a calamitous season and not even qualified for Europe.

Do we think Kompany has gone there for that little pay?

Managers generally earn less than the top players do, and being able to go straight into a job like that is definitely a boon for him. You're right, I expect he's on somewhere in the £30k-£50k wage while doing two jobs, but if anything that level of outlay makes Janssen on big money even less likely. If they're in for him I expect part of the deal is us still paying half the wages, and I doubt we'll do that at least until right at the end of the window if we've got no other offers.

Only if our Daniel is prepared to give him away (as good as) with only year left on his contract. As recently he wanted a ‘decent fee’.
