At some point we have to move on. Can't keep them for ever. We are also extremely unlikely to make a better signing than Davinson Sanchez to replace him, so anyone coming in is probably a rotation option. That probably explains why it's not a priority.

We have sanchez, dier, jan, foyth and davies. We should be ok.

Although i think he will see out his contract.

Why the hell would he want to go to Roma or United?
There can be only one answer, and thats a long contract with huge wages. Cant be cause he wants to win something.

Depends what you think is ok...

For me last season our defensive solidity (or lack of) was our main weakness. I only see that getting worse without Toby.
As great as NDombele looks, it doesn’t seem that he will give any better defensive protection than Winks or Sissoko.
If neither CB or RB are areas we strengthen I feel it will be our defence that lets us down again.

Our offense was pretty poor as well IMO. If Toby goes CB is a must, RB at present is a must as well.

We were very strong when Toby was out for months with Sanchez and Vertonghen playing regularly. IMO we won't buy in another CB if Toby leaves unless it's a very young prospect that we can develop.

This will be his last big contract, maybe even his last contract full stop. Ultimately he's just a guy doing a job at the end of the day and as much as winning things is important, setting his wife and kids up for life is also important. Keep in mind that (in relative terms) he's not really made a lot of money from his career so far, especially when you consider how highly rated he has been over the past few years. His current contract with us will be by far the biggest of his career and that's allegedly "only" 50k/week, which is nothing for someone who for a while was ranked up there with the best in his position in the world. If he can get one last big contract on e.g. 150k/week for 3 years then he could potentially make more from that contract than he has from his entire career so far.

He said live on TV he would be here next year. I know "he would say that" could be invoked but I did actually believe him.

Did he? When was that?

Can't remember but 15 seconds of Googling turned up this so he may have said it more than once.

It was exactly one week since Toby Alderweireld lost the final of the Champions League. "This week, I had a hard time digesting the loss," said the Tottenham defender. "When you lose a Champions League final, you want to go home with your family and not see football for a few weeks, but after a few days, I turned the button and I charged my penultimate batteries one last time. It's time for the season to be over. "

Alderweireld played a mature match, as he always does. "We have to take all the matches seriously, we knew that Kazakhstan beat Scotland 3-0, and our 5-2 defeat in Switzerland was a good warning, but we started well and we easily won. We tried to score more goals, but we did not succeed in the second half, everyone wanted to score their small goal, so we neglected the organization a bit, but Kazakhstan did not was not dangerous. "

With nine out of nine, the qualification can no longer escape the Devils. Alderweireld: "We do not calculate too much, we want to finish the season with a six of six, and then we go on vacation. The season was long, I played 65 games ..."

A journalist from Sky wanted to know if he would still be a Tottenham player early next season. "Yes, yes, I still have a contract, so I'll be there, and after a few weeks of vacation, I'll have the freshness and the desire to start the season again in Tottenham."

I have a feeling there will be a late flurry of interest for him before the contract deadline. Clubs don’t need to negotiate over a price, it’s just his contract.
Clubs might be trying other signings done first knowing that the price won’t change
