Toby and Verts are the mutts nuts.

Probably unlikely, but would be absolutely beautiful to keep them for a couple more seasons now we are seriously attempting to address other key areas.

Anyway, I haven't been reading the thread, but I was thinking about one fact... So back then when he signed the contract the transfer window deadline was the same for all the countries pretty much. Right now, english window ends around 3 weeks early than windows in Spain, Germany or Italy. Has anyone considered the fact that the clause might be just for the last two weeks of "standard" window, meaning that any english club won't get him for the lower price? That'd make things so much easier, no idea how the clause is worded though.

Standard window as in foreign transfer window?

For sure release clause is for all clubs, so it's 25m for every club until 2 weeks to end of English window, after that enjoy Daniel Levy

Yes, it's for all clubs, but if they worded it like "two weeks up to 31st of august" or something like this. Nobody expected shorter transfer window when he's signed the contract four years ago.

I know it would take an absolute miracle and a huge turn around from Poch but to see Toby and Verts both sign 2 or 3 year extensions with us would be massive IMO.

We won't find a pair like these two for a while to come, and gives Foyth and Sanchez the chance to form a formidable partnership so that when they both return to Ajax before retiring we have a ready made replacement for the pair.

Tbf he extended contact this year and that's when this release clause was activated I think, so we know that.

I was wondering this. I suspect however it must be our window. If it's not definitive in the contract I suspect the club's solicitors can fight it out.

Sky Sports really want Toby to move somewhere! I’m not sure how they can do a complete day of clips on him when the headline is ‘no bids yet for Toby’. We all know his situation, but it’s really not that different than a ‘no bids for Kane yet’ headline because that’s also true and not newsworthy. I could understand their interest if there was a rumour of him being linked with a club, but there isn’t. Weird.

Anyway, from what the itk’s say, there’s no chance of forgiveness on Poch’s part so he’ll be gone either this season or next, which is a real shame. That said, he is more injury prone nowadays and Sánchez will be even more experienced and hopefully ready to take over his role. Maybe Foyth too if he isn’t at RB...

It's pretty shocking that seemingly no one will pay 25m for him, especially with how obscene the market is. It's not like he's ancient, he's just turned 30! I genuinely don't think there's a club in Europe he couldn't do a job for. Sometimes I don't understand modern football. Oh well, all the better for us.

I think it might be that he is looking to see out his contract and already has his next move sorted

It wouldn't surprise me if we were leaking bits and pieces to try and drum up a bit of interest. It seems pretty clear he won't sign a new contract, and I'm sure we'd prefer to sell him this summer and raise some funds, even if it's just the £25m for the release clause. I saw on twitter quite a bit of information about Arsenal's finances and letting players like Ramsey run down their contract and go for free is a big contributory factor as to why they have no money to spend now.

He probably wants an obscene salary and signing bonus

I'd love to see him sign a new contract but if he's not committed to us, I hope a club trigger's his release clause so we can reinvest in the squad. It would be a good time to bed another defender like Saliba into the squad while we have Jan and Sanchez as our starters.

Agreed. Poch and Levy desperately wanted to move him.

Offer me 25mill or another season from a top top CB who then leaves for nothing, and I'll be taking Toby every time.

He is far from being injury prone. Played over 40 games last season and the season before seemed have been frozen out the team in the 2nd half of the season.

I would love to know, what he has done to upset the hierarchy, as he is our best defender, so can’t see why we are doing our best to get rid of him, seems very strange....
