Like I said in a early post, I would replace Toby with an up and coming player (Vertonghen long term replacement) and move Foyth up the pecking order.
That would leave more money to spend in other areas that are weaker imo
I don't agree on that one simply because I don't know about Jan's situation, 32 and picked up more little injuries recently.

If Toby leaves, I'd prioritise improving our fullback options before signing another CB. I'm comfortable with Sanchez and Foyth stepping up alongside Jan, but only if they have better, regular fullbacks beside them.

Let's hope the way Sissoko has improved recently happens to Aurier too. He should be better than Trippier with his pace and power.

Certainly with the trust Pochettino places on our youth, accepting that they will make mistakes this seems a good option.

But we as a fan base, will also have to accept more defensive frailty with a relatively inexperienced partnership at the back, unless the likes of Wanyama or Dier get back to their best.

I don’t think Forth is ready we could not play a season with him as our main CB if Sanchez and Jan were injured.

Reading that United opted out of signing him due to doubts if he can play in a back four.

I kept looking for the «That's the joke» meme, but alas, there was none.

Injuries do happen, we would be very unlucky for that to happen but Dier could play at the back and has plenty of experience now

Jan gets injured every season for a while then your down to Sanchez and Forth for every game we have played 11 games in 33 days we play two games a week most of the season. We need 3 top quality CBs.

Dier is a midfielder move him back and we have two CM and Skip!

As I said I would buy a young cb and a cm so it wouldn’t leave us in this postion.
I guess the situation it’s all about how highly rated Foyth is

Depends on how close our young CM players are to the first team also. Could apply to any of our youths to be fair.

I think we have enough young center backs, if we want to improve we need to improve our Full backs, CM and not end up with worse players than Toby and Eriksen if they go. This is a massive ask, Arsenal,Man u and Chelsea will be better next season you would imagine.

The conveyor belt was in evidence against Tranmere ... Toby goes we are left with Davison, Jan, foyt, dier (emergency) and eyoma (sp? ) .... another year or two rolls on and Jan is on the downward and another sprog steps into eyomas position... it might not be the most exciting way of doing things but it's healthy in its own way...

CM- similarly dier, sissoko, winks .. skipp, marsh, amos, (assuming moussa and wanyama go)...

That's a production line and a decent basis to build on ..

Clear as day to me is we sign a LB and have Davies as 3/4 choice. He's looked very good when player there and I'd use him as a CB like Wales do

He is at point of his career where he needs to be ready for backup/3rd choice role come next season. If not then, when?

This is the right move, imo.

Move Sanchez and Foyth up in the pecking order, bring in a good young, English preferably, CB to be 4th CB, and then bring in a top CM.

It's a tough one. Say Jan gets a long term injury though, would you be comfortable with Sanchez & foyth or Sanchez & Dier starting every game at CB, Champions league included? I wouldn't

In any job it's a learning curve. I dare say both Toby and Jan made plenty of mistakes in their early career. If we think Sanchez, Foyth and Eyoma are the way to go, we will just have to accept they will too, suck it up and support them on their journey. The thought of Dier at centre back brings me out in a cold sweat.

Just a side note, we should all go back to page 1 of this thread and read how little we wanted Toby from Southampton and how Fazio was just as good and Schneiderlin (sp) was the key to our midfield alongside wanyama..... thank god we all just post and have nothing to do with shaping the club!

That said, my personal view is that we need a cb replacement that could go straight into the first team alongside Jan or Davison. I like foyth and think he is likely to make it but I agree with the calls for needing stronger depth in reserve. Happy if dier is that man and a cm comes in instead. I don’t think midfield is where dier is suited and he’s gone backwards in that regard so maybe drop him back literally and create space for a Rabiot type signing (I know we won’t get him)
