I've said this. Otamendi is still a liability at the top end of the spectrum, and Stones is out of favour. Toby will make them impenatrable, and give them the base they need to win champions leagues.

Toby and Kompany in defence makes perfect sense if its not Toby and Vertonghen.

As long as Liverpool, Utd and City (as well as a few others like PSG, Madrid, Barca etc) all start a bidding war, which they should given his quality, then I am relatively happy. Resigned to him going so now its about getting as much for him as possible.

The ones that need him the most are Real. They are missing one top quality CB to partner Ramos (Varane, Vallejo and Nacho the others) and I'm hoping given they conceded more than twice the number of goals Barca and Ath Madrid have that they will open their wallets big time

Seemingly playing tomorrow. Obvious choice to replace Verts alongside Sanchez. If not, Poch might need a little kick up the arse.

Add Moura, Wanyama and a little bit of karma.

Best to know about SAF, aware of SFA, proud of SGA and prepare to do an SMA(Send Mourinho Away)!

Think we were always gonna loss our 27+ players at this stage the big test is to see where we are when Kane and alli are around that age to see if we’ve really moved on.

Sounds good. Sanchez will benefit on Saturday from a rest. Let's squeeze a bit more out of Toby before he goes. He's on the payroll so put him to use. Hopefully professionalism & upcoming world cup will mean he performs if we need to use him.

If he does well tomorrow I'd play him against United too. As u say, squeeze all we can before we sell. If he can help win us a cup all will be forgiven

If you're SAF, with your record of "knocking Liverpool off their perch", then you're rather impregnable. There's a major reason The Kop paraded a banner proclaiming "Come Back When You've Won 18" - like Neymar's buyout clause, they thought it impossible in their lifetimes. Now United have 20 and Liverpool are still on 18.

Poch isn't remotely a SAF. He's a SFA - won sweet fuck all.

For us he's a saviour, SGA -Spurs Great Again.

SAF acknowledged selling Jaap Stam was an error, quite a significant one. I'd like our SGA to avoid the same with Toby - forgive and forget.
Didn’t it take five years before he won fuck all? And he spent a shit load of money at the time.
Was on the verge of getting sacked if I remember righty

I am confused over his contract...

Contracted until summer 2019?

We have a one year extension which would take him to 2020?

Once we activate it he has a release clause of 25 million?

So the view is thay we need to sell him this summer to get more for him rumoured to be 40 million?

Is that right?

Poch has said twice in news conferences that the player has 2 years left on his contract. The situation you outline is what was leaked to the press so I assume it’s right. However I find it strange that Poch would keep saying that unless of course he is just doing so in an attempt to dissolve the situation when questioned about it.

The clause is also apparently only able to be triggered in a 2 week period in the transfer window.

It’s also complicated in regards to the legal situation and release clauses as they aren’t legally enforceable in this country apparently. Although how the lawyers would have signed off it being in the original contract if that is the case is strange.

Whilst there was no oil money on the level we see today Man United were definitely outspent in the late 80s by both Liverpool and Everton and throughout the 90s by Blackburn (early part) and Newcastle. fortunately for them by the mid 90s they had already established themselves as the dominant force.

There are definitely a lot of parallels to draw from the 80s and now. We can see with Man City that before Guardiola they were not the team they are now. Mancini and Pellegrino both had the same money that Guardiola has now and yet they failed to build on any success they had. Chelsea also have a big wallet and they seem to be a Yo-Yo club with regard to league performances.

Pochettino needs to continue doing what he is doing and start to win the cups and there will be a time in the coming seasons as with everything in football where the cycle is refreshed and a new team comes to the fore.

I'd say that a more important consideration is that we don't sell him to another English club. For that reason, I'd take a bit less money from PSG or one of the big two Spanish clubs. (I don't know if our Dear Leader would also be prepared to accept a lower fee from a continental club, but such a club would probably use such reasoning as a bargaining chip against him.)
Unfortunately, nobody can force a player to sign for any particular club, even if the clubs agree a fee, so there's always a risk that he'll see out his contract with us and join one of the Manc clubs, for example, on a Bosman.

True but Alderweireld would also be two years older by that time. Might be harder to get the kind of deal he's looking for and / or the Manc clubs have simply moved on to other targets by that time. Two years are a lot of time in a professional footballers career.
