25 million is a steal, you'll get 3 more good years out if him.
Suprised none of the top clubs in Europe aren't biting even if they don't particularly need a CB as he'll likely be better than what they have anyway

When does this clause run out exactly, like, what's the cut off date for it to be triggered?

Isnt there some form of big tax incentive for footballers in Italy atm? Whilst i still cant see this happening for a number of reasons, it would make the link certainly more plausible if Roma could pay him top money wage wise.

In fact here is a video explaining exactly what i meant:

Thank you to both of you. @Lilbaz @Spurs Lodge Kittens

So not long then ... Teams are cutting it fine if they want him now I suppose otherwise it's the highest bidder (well for his own benefit I mean) in six months time.

Is it though? £25m over 36 months is £694,444.44 per month. Before his wages, with no resale value (even if he is still mustard at 33 odds are he would leave on a free to go to Ajax.)
He is on what at the moment 100k per week so you are paying over £1,000,000.00 a month for him. He is a great defender but marketing wise not exactly an Mbappe, Salah, Messi, Son... how many of our own fans do you see with his name on their shirt?

Now factor in that next year he can walk for nothing at 31 you save a chunk of money...to me he doesn't seem like the best deal when you look at it that way.

For one of the world's best defenders it certainly is

Sky Italy are reporting that Levy is due to meet Baldini (Roma) do discuss a deal for Toby in London ...

BREAKING NEWS
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is set to meet Roma official Franco Baldini in London to negotiate a deal for Toby Alderweireld, according to Sky in Italy.

Make of that what you will - if at all.

This Roma link doesn't feel right. Will they pay him loads more than what we offered him? Somehow I can't see it. Are they bigger than us? I would imagine he'd reject them and wait a few months where he will have more control and greater opportunity to earn more. Let's see how this one ends up. I'd love for him to stay at least one more season.

No Champions League football either, it's such an odd move (if it happens)

What’s there to negotiate? Pay the release clause ...

Yep, I don't get it. We're not gonna accept less than £25m. Strange. Unless something unsavoury has occurred - for example Arsenal activated the release clause, and we're trying to offload Toby to Roma to prevent him going to that mob (unlikely scenario, I know). However, it's down to Toby where he goes and I don't see why he would want to go to Roma, a club not in the CL and not in the top bracket when it comes to wages.

Such a weird move for him if it does materialize. Wasted going there.

Maybe his missus who seems to have a lot of say, fancies a move to Italyo_O doesn't make sense!

Really want him to stay and sign a new contract too.... but.... if he goes anywhere, then I’ll be very happy with Roma! Can’t bear the thought of seeing him in the Prem.

Found it strange that the club haven’t put anything up on social media today regarding training. A lot of big players were supposed to return back today. Maybe there’s a notable player missing ...

Maybe Levy is listening to his manager and a very regular gripe on here about moving players out - just get it (the deal) done and move on.

Very un Levy like though.

Maybe he wants to live in italy, his wife could be high maintenance and pushing him In that direction. Rome is quite the pull in terms of lifestyle

Agreed. If he has to go, much better he goes abroad rather than to one of our PL rivals.

But I'd be delighted if he stayed, obviously.
