He's definitely gone. Clubs are going to be chucking money at him in the Summer. He's going to end up with a £10-£15 million + signing on fee/wage increase because of this clause.

He'd get that if it was a free. Don't think for £25m release. He'll be 30 that means a team can't sell him on to get some of their outlay back.

There's clubs that won't be bothered about getting any money back, they want to win trophys.

Was Toby rested or injured against Southampton? I missed the reason why he wasn’t playing.

Another weird thing to do when we haven’t got a game for weeks. We lost the last time he was rested as well. Wasn’t it the Arsenal away match?

He’s still so important for us, will be gutted if/when he leaves in the summer.
I'm not sure I agree with it, but worth noting that resting players doesn't just take into account games to come, but games that have come before as well.

Yeah I can understand that and if there was a little niggle from a previous game or if he was genuinely physically shattered, I could definitely understand being rested more than being rested for the sake of it. I’m sure he’d have wanted to play against his old club too if he wasn’t injured.

I think Walker-Peters would have been more comfortable playing next to Toby with all his experience helping him out.

With all the sports science associated with football, it’s fair to assume he was in ‘the red zone’ in terms of potential injury/muscle fatigue.
The last thing we want is a repeat of his hamstring tear last season.

We’ve seen what happens when players can’t be rested (Winks in particular). All the centre halves have been given breathers because we have cover.

Yeah.

Frank Lampard played 50 games a season in CM.

Tobes has played 35 plus so far this season at CB.

I don't really understand the comparison. Toby smashes through players and generally takes far harder knocks than Lampard ever did, but Lampard ran further. You are more likely to get knocks being the type of player Toby is than Lampard.

Look, Poch shouldn't have rested Toby, it was a silly decision, just got to say he fucked that one up and move on.

Bit of a lazy comparison granted.

Well I guess we're not privy to any of the physical analysis that Pochs is aware of.

If Toby was injured then so be it but he was rested according to Poch. Rested when we have a 3 week break is very odd. Did he really need to be rested or was it a ploy by Poch with the contract issue in mind. I don't know but Pochs teamsheets are almost impossible to guess and IMO he got it wrong.

I also think he got it wrong with KWP too. There are times to integrate a youngster into the lineup. I'm always weary when youngsters are brought in to start in a team that isn't playing well, playing without cohesion and that is low on confidence.

He could have given him a shit load of minutes in more suitable games earlier on in the season.

He's had bug hamstring injuries just about every season lately bar the 15/16 season and (knock wood) this one. Maybe we're managing him OK?

There is a lot more to the Toby story than you guys will ever know which sounds inflammatory but put it this way, I dont expect him to be at the club next season and if he gets a new contract then i dont expect Poch to be there....
