How did you !00% know? lol
Don't know the full name but the journo jack something reported on the day of semi final vs Chelsea, that due to interest from City etc because of which Walker had been dropped from the squad.Nobody believed him at that time but with passing weeks it became quite apparent that he's moving to City.

And that made it 100%? There have been plenty of Journo's saying Toby was leaving for ages, how is that different?

You are using hindsight to say you knew Walker was going, so I see very little difference with this one tbh.

100% was a bit off stretch but still we all could see that he was moving to City. With Toby we know he's leaving but still not clear whether utd still even want him now or not.

I fail to see how we have a ton of leverage in this situation other than just not wanting to sell to United. If you look around Europe there aren't a ton of teams that need a 29 year old world class CB, at least that could potentially afford one. PSG pretty well set, Barcelona set, Real Madrid have their pair, Juve set, Bayern set, etc. There just aren't many suitors to start a bidding war IMO.

the thing is whose going to be happy being benched if we now decide to play a 4, with Dier occasionally making it a 5. Rumours where that Toby was all set to sign a new contract in January, he was offered £110k I believe, and at the end of discussions or end of the season came back asking for an extra 60k. Sanchez played pretty well in the 4 at the back too, and it was only Man C that managed to score more than 2 against us in any 1 match, and we didn't concede 2 goals in many games (before anyone pipes up Toby & Dier was our CB v Leicester). the thing is Sanchez was the 1st player to sign an improved contract, yet we could of held off for a season with him as we only signed him last season, so had a long contract anyway.

Yes I agree Toby, Sanchez, and Jan make a great defence, but how many teams do we really need to be playing with 3 at the back, when 75%+ of the time we are either in possession and in the other teams half, where we need the extra attacking player to breakdown a defence. If he signs a new contract and accepts he will see a lot of rotation, and in those games he doesn't feature he won't get his bonuses and rid of a release then I'll be okay with that, and support him like I support everyone that puts the shirt on whether a great player or even Sissoko

what happens if we only have sanchez and vertonghen, then davies rose or either of them gets a season injury?

I'm not sure why you feel you should be kept in the loop. Transfers are often on then off then on again. It's not like you think transfers costing millions upon millions are straightforward now, is it?

I really hope we do go out and buy a replacement, but where do you draw the lines on injuries. you can only have a 25 man squad, which is 2 per position and 3 others

Not too many positives from Sky article this morning.

Toby Alderweireld insists his prolonged spell out of Tottenham's first-team last season was "unjustified" and admits he still unsure about his future.

Sanchez was good & so was Verts, so why is Alderweireld feeling special? I understand Toby is currently better but his wanting away, to me means we should back Sanchez as he's the future.

If Toby wants to stay, then prove your commitment in training & you'll get pitch time

AND sign a new contract without a release clause..

It's these exact quotes that go against Poch's ethos. You are disrespecting your teammates the moment you say "I deserve to be in the team". What Toby seems to misunderstand is that it's not just performances but how you conduct yourself, so if you're going around abusing people's trust and faith then you don't deserve to be considered against other professionals who have behaved impeccably.

If he was looking to restore faith and mend bridges he would be saying "I am committed and will fight to get back into consideration". He can go as far as I care and I'm fully supportive on Poch on this.

bit more from ali z: It is not just contract situation, he disrespected both Poch and team mates, not a liberty to say more, if and when he leaves will update.

I can’t get past the word ‘unjustified’- it’s unprofessional, egotistical and smacks of move facilitating.

Semantics but was that him or those around him again?

If he is back tracking and prepared to sign new deal I find it baffling if we let him go.

Would be class in a back three alongside Sanchez and Vertonghen.

Can’t be having bad eggs in the squad no matter how good they are and I loved Toby was our best signing for the price we got him in years

Gutted in some ways but as long as we find a suitable replacement then as a club we move on no player is bigger than the club.

I truly hope we don’t sell him to Utd and not get what we want in return ie the fee we want or martial
