Any idea how his form usually is after international duty. Memory tells me it’s not so great and that he needs time and a run of games to build up a head of steam.

Except that the Asian Cup is held 6 months after the World Cup and 4 months after the Asian Games. So Son will have had to compete in 3 international tournaments in half a year.

He didn't have to. We let him go to the asian games because 1/we wanted him to win it to get him out of national service. 2/ we did a deal that if he played in the asian games he would miss the group stages of the asian cup (jan) a point in the season where we need him the most. None of us can complain unless you wanted him gone next season cleaning toilets with a toothbrush?
