It seems like Poch's full backs primary job is to be high up the pitch and attack anyway. I think Sess can be coached the defensive side and be an asset going forward. I don't think Jordi Alba is great at defending but if the team your playing for dominates possession mostly then you probably don't need to be.
I think the key is to have options. If we need to be more defensive I think Davies/Vertonghen will give us better defensive options there. But for sure against teams who park the bus someone like Sess pushing right up there will offer a great threat in attack.

Sessegnon reminds of the Danny Rose situation. When we signed him from Leeds, Rose was considered a winger by many, yet has developed into a quality PL left back.

With Pochs defensive guidance, and Sessegnon’s natural ability in the final third this:
A) looks like a very good long term solution for the Rose problem
B) will be great for keeping a core of HG players
C) could be another example that quality players don’t always play for the top teams - some get relegated, yet with the right guidance and tuition can become quality (see Robertson).

If you have the opportunity to turn the left back position into another world class attacking outlet with intelligent passes and well timed runs then you absolutely do it imo, of course you need the base of reasonably solid defensively but lets face it we've hardly had that for as long as I can remember and certainly Madrid have not been harmed using this model. If sessegnon is used as a winger then he'll be fine, probably a level below the likes of Son but he could be an absolutely devastating outlet from left back in my opinion, he's got the sensibilities to be right up the very top for attacking fullbacks.

Theres plenty of Wingers that turned into good fullbacks.

Danny Rose, Wan-Bissaka, Valencia, Ashley Young, Jori Alba, Bellerin, Ivanovic, Patrice Evra, David Alaba. I fancy Sessegnon will join that group

Whenever I have seen him play I have always thought that he needs coaching. Hopefully our team of coaches will bring out the best in him.

The only downside to this signing is the inevitable "he's not good enough for us" comments if he doesn't replicate 2013 Bale in his first season.

I'm honestly not expecting anything from him apart from a handful of PL/CL sub appearances and some domestic cup starts this season. It'll take 6 months to a year for Poch to get the best out of him, so we'll have to be patient.

I'm more excited about 20/21 Sessegnon than I am 19/20 Sessegnon.

I remember seeing quotes from Danny Rose saying that Poch told him that if he listened to him he would turn DR into an England International at LB. I wonder if similar conversations were had between Sess and Poch this time around.

Should be an easier conversation. Rose was always a winger before Redknapp, but Sessegnon played mainly at left back prior to his breakthrough at senior level.
