He certainly looks the part of a number one for all the reasons previously described especially his distribution. With that said, the Cruyff turn was not a great moment. As beautifully executed as it was, it was unnecessary. He had ample opportunity to play the ball up field or even to Sanchez on the ground before Lozano put him under pressure. It's great that he had the skill to pull it off, however, the fact that he had to pull it off suggests that he didn't make a fast enough decision to play it out before pressure and/or misjudged Lozano's pace.

why isnt he good enough, just wondering. I mean he looks like a good shot stopper, good distribution, decent enough decision maker on when to come off his line.

Add to that he's only 25 or 26 isn't he? Very young in goalkeeping terms so plenty of scope for improvement. I really like the look of him, definitely way ahead of Vorm in the pecking order now

Whilst still "young" its worth remembering at a similar age we signed the captain of France to be our first choice keeper so I think Gazza is still a bit behind.

I don’t think he’ll ever be first choice but he a good back up GK.

Vorm to leave this summer and use Whiteman or get another homegrown gk as third choice

I really like him. I feel confident with him in goal and has really impressed.

Plus 100% record in all 3 games!

lol, you guys are praising Gazzaniga's distribution, but fail to notice that PSV was barely pressuring him at the time of distributing the ball. You're also praising his shot stopping abilities, but fail to mention that most shots were pretty much heading straight at him.

Gazzaniga is not playing bad at all, but it seems to me the irrational hate some have for Lloris is probably making you collectively give more credit to this guy than he deserves. Don't do this to yourselves guys, there's a reason why Lloris is the starter and Gazza isn't.

Nobody is saying that Gazza should displace Lloris immediately or anytime soon. But the day we'll be forced to replace Hugo maybe a lot closer then people may think. Whether if Hugo wants to leave or if his decision making doesnt recover.

If that situation occurs all Im saying I dont see the reason Gazza couldnt be our #1. Also I wasnt basing his quality on just last night's game, but his performance while he's been at spurs.

I'm saying it.

Not saying lloris is finished but Ive lost confidence in him. He's played well and done enough to at least keep his place for a couple of games to see what happens. No one is beyond reproach and I feel lloris hasn't been there this season, I'm a fan of playing form players in form.

I'm not quite there yet, I completely understand anybody that is there. But I wonder how the big personalities in the squad feel about Hugo and his form. Like Kane, Vertonghen and Eriksen, would they accept dropping Lloris for Gazza atm?

Complete nonsense going on in here.
If Gazza becomes number 1 then Hugo will push for a move, he's far too good to be a number 2.
Then what do we do when Gazza throws a couple in and goes through a dip in form?
Hugo has been generally excellent for us for a good few years...now people want to throw him under the bus for a few mistakes?
Its fickle bullshit...thats what it is.

i think for the most part u r misunderstanding what's being discussed, but that's ok. It's hypothetically that will never occur bc Poch is super loyal to Hugo, and vice versa.

Im not misunderstanding anything mate, the haste in which fans turn on our players is quite startling.
And its not just Hugo, there's a very good reason why Poch plays players through their poor form...and its because he's playing the long game.
He doesn't choose his teams based on what's best for the next game, he's thinking much, much further ahead than that.

no that's not whats being talked about, were talking about for the inevitable moment when Lloris moves on from the club. It could be this season, after next season or 7 seasons from now. All players leave the club it's a fact of life and it's important to have a contigency plan in place. Something this club seems to struggle at.

Still too early for me. I think one thing he doesn’t and probably will never have is good enough reflex, which is slower enough that naked eyes can tell the difference between him and Lloris/Vrom; understandable given his 6-4/6-5 frame.

Playing players in form is often the right philosophy. But maybe not in every case. Hugo is more than just our keeper. He’s our club captain and I believe a fantastic representative. The drink drive issue has been a massive dent. But I’ve met him and chatted to him a couple of times. He’s got incredible steel and assurance. If anyone can turn things around I believe Hugo will. Internally he’s massively respected by all. That aside let’s not kid ourselves, he’s a phenomenal keeper, despite some lapses this season.

I like what I’ve seen of Gazz so far, but To me Hugo is simply No. 1

It's not a bad problem to have, Gazza giving Hugo a run for his money.
