I'll be honest on a technical level I don't see it yet, I think that's because I'm not a scout so that's on me and not him but what I do see is a couple of moments where his desire to be first to the ball was great, there was a little run down the right wing in the 2nd half and 1st half 1on1 with townsend. As I say, I can't quite see it yet but he's still so early in his development and over the last 6-7 years there's been nobody better than Poch at developing talent not only here but at Southampton so I value his judgement over my lack of ability to see what Skipp is about.

He’s not a player that’s gonna win any awards for aesthetically pleasing play, or FIFA showboating clips, but if he keeps developing he’s gonna be one of those guys that managers trust to follow instructions and bring it every week. Just needs to fill out a little so he doesn’t lose those 50/50s when contesting the ball.

He's got similar attributes to Kane (at a similar age) in that nothing he does is stand out but you can see he has a fantastic attitude and that can get you to the very top

At 18 we've got about 2 years to see what level he can/will eventually end up at

For me he's done very very well so far

Keep it up Skippy

Because we don't have a Modric?

you dont think that in time Winks at 22 is pretty impressive and has the ability to be great like Modric

At the moment he looks OK. If you take your spurs blinkers off and he was playing for another club I wouldn’t look at him and think wow spurs have really found one here. Saying that I thought Tom davies was gonna be a star and he’s clearly not pushed on. Skipp is playing in a position he is likely to get better with age. It’s not like a sancho or Hudson odoi that are wingers and it’s all natural ability. As Skipp physically gets better it will help him. At worst he will be another Livermore at best scotty Parker. He wasn’t awful yesterday a bit below par I’d give him 6.5. If you want reference go look at first few pages of Kane thread ?

he didn't have a great game but his only 18 we are comparing him to Livermore who we saw in the first team at 21-22 yrs old after loans? Skipp has a lot more to his game and if all the youth watchers see it Poch sees it i think we are on to a winner, its a massive step up and you have to give him time if he was a 50 millin pound foreign signing people would be saying give him time!

Yes not sure what happened to Tom Davis i thought he was amazing first season he has really gone backwards.

Are you seriously comparing Winks to Modric? That is laughable mate.

Winks does a very similar job to Modric- always on the move, always available and knitting play together. Seems to do very well when we are up against it (which is good!) but play in a negative way in games where we are playing a run of the mill team.

Can he be as good as Modric? That would be tough, after all Modric has just won the Balon D'or but it took him a while to get there. He was good with us but has got much better since- an interesting contrast with Fabregas who had a bigger impact in his last couple of seasons with Arsenal but then made much less impact in Spain- and Winks is young and improving.

If i had to guess i would say he would be a top player but not at the Modric level but it isn't impossible- let's hope he does!

I think you are being generous to Winks in the extreme. Modric will go down as a modern great of the game. Dragged Croatia to a World Cup final no less too.

The comparisons with Fabregas is just bizarre. These players are several levels above Winks from the start, Fabregas was running Arsenal's CM at the age of 17 at a very high level in the PL.

I'm absolutely convinced Winks is incredibly over rated by a majority of our fan base. So I feel like I'm flogging a dead horse here. I've got my opinion. The guy is decent but unspectacular. If Winks does reach the level of Modric I will take my hat off to him but he's miles away and I do not see anything in his game which suggests he will reach a top level. There isn't a single aspect of his game where he is spectacular. He's just a modern day Scott Parker.

If we had a pair of top CM's Winks would just be a back up, which is his level. I think Winks is decent but unspectacular. I'm not against him being a rotation option, but he is certainly not of the required level where we build our CM around him. We need better in CM.

Winks is 22 and improving all the time. Saying he is like Modric isn't saying he is as good as Modric just that he does a similar job. Winks is improving all the time and just back this year from a serious injury. He will keep improving and I think he will prove a very good CM for us over the years. We could always improve this area but this year shows you need enough in Midfield that you can rotate without a massive drop off and he will be a regular rotating starter for us for the next 10 years if he keeps improving.

Let's wait a little while before comparing Winks to Modric. Winks is still younger than when Modric played his first match for Spurs and it took Luka a little while to get going once he did join.

Skipp was fine on Sunday.

We lost but not because of him, we actually controlled the midfield (up until Wanyama came on I felt).

First goal maybe he could have got closer to Schlupp but equally Sanchez should have done better with his tackle, Gazzaniga the same with the save and Trippier was on the wrong side of Wickham.

He will be a fine player for us and England.

We lost yesterday because despite controlling the game senior player like Trippier, and Llorente and Nkoudou didn’t step up to take the chances we did create.

Not sure I agree with some of the comments that's he's not ready and needs a loan. In our current financial situation we have to ask who are we going to buy who's going to come in and improve what we have as there's no point in buying mediocrity. Therefore he's well worth a squad place.

Considering he is only 18 and that was his 2nd game I thought he did well. He plays with a maturity way beyond his years. Yes there was and will be some more mistakes in his development but there are many more encouraging assets to his game. He was definitely better than Dier and we absolutely controlled the midfield yesterday, it was the fault of senior players as to why we lost.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of him and I believe his passing will become more expansive as his confidence grows, he appears to have the technique for it.

He works very hard, however I think he has a lack of a standout technical attribute. A lot of more technical players as youth team players end up being more workhorses in the PL as the standard and speed are just too quick to play the way they've played. Players, like Mason, Winks, Parker, even Henderson were more attacking, technical players but ended up being more water carriers as they had adjusted to the speed of the PL. His biggest chance would be if he gets bigger and fills out, reaches 6ft. Then he'd have the work rate and physique to make it in the PL.

I agree he looks off the pace to me but after Kane couldnt even get into the Norwich team and then went and made us all look like utter twats I shall reserve judgement for now.

Skipp has been a breath of fresh air for me so far. Hope he cements a proper place in the squad next season.

From what i've seen over the course of the admittedly small sample size 5-6 games he's played, he looks better than Dier in CM.

I realize I'm in a minority, but I think Dier offers very little in midfield. He seems to have gone backwards since first moving there.

Winks was 20 when he started turning out regularly and performing the the level required to be a genuine alternative in our midfield, just for comparison. Skipp has a lot to learn, and enough time to do so. Judging him for what he is right now, I think his performance was decent enough to be optimistic.

It's unbelievable how many people seem to have conveniently forgotten that, in their opinion, teenage Harry Kane, who was being farmed out on loan and genuinely not impressing anyone, would never make it in the PL & would be a Championship standard player at best.

It's easy to tell how a young player will turn out
