I take it we are quite confident Wanyama will be back soon then? This leaves us really short in CM if not. Say Winks doesn’t hit the ground running we are just left with Demebele and Dier, going on last season there’s no way Dembele can play every game.

I think the point is we don’t play 4231 anymore. It seems our system is incredibly flexible. But the consistent part seems to be a single pivot. I think tonight was a diamond and so it means someone like Lamela could easily play the wide role in a diamond. There’s only really now one obvious CM role which any of Dier wanyama winks dembele can play. But winks dembele dele Eriksen Lamela can all play the wider role.

I respect him, gets no real backing at games and a shit ton of abuse online but always works hard for the team.

Wanted to come to Spurs, for that reason alone I like him.

Think it’s quite sad in a way, I think he is under rated even with his limitations.

Strangely I think we may miss Sissoko.
I thought he did well last season as a useful squad player that could fill in anywhere in midfield, which was much needed due to the injuries we had.

I wish him all the best. A lot of people on this site like to shit on him unfairly.
Hopefully Onomah is a capable replacement in the "Sissoko utility role" whether it be at CM or AM.

Amos was sub tonight not sure if he has jumped ahead of Onomah. But basically one of Onomah or amos will take sissoko place if not both.

I always appreciated his effort and willingness to play wherever asked. With Lucas and now Lamela back his only role is CM. Lord knows we are still short there as evidenced by Dier's first half and no options but I guess Poch is counting on Winks and Onomah/Amos. I trust Poch.

He isn't good enough but he is a body, which is why we signed him and we need bodies- look at how much he played last season because we will get injuries.
Does suggest that Onomah has a bigger role this year- as Winks already had that last season, which is interesting. He was so brilliant in that Under 20's World Cup Final and then on and off for Villa last year. Plus perhaps they rate Luke Amos.
Possibly too that we have a free agent midfielder coming in? That is less likely though I think.

I think Onamah looks decent against his age group for England but he's not shown anywhere near enough when playing with senior teams, looks weak. I've still not worked out what he is good at apart from keeping things short sideways and backwards passes. Villa season ticket holder I know wasn't overly impressed.

Unpopular view!! After not bringing anybody in we cannot afford to let Sissoko go. It’s a long season and we might have to rely on him at times during the season. Foolish to let him go.

Good luck to him. Feel he’s done a job for us when needed. Wonder who will get the abuse once he leave probably dier or omouah.

But we can buy in January to replace him.

Am I missing something or is the only report to Sissoko going on loan the Twitter link above quoting RMC? Last thing they said was that we had bid on French guy with dodgy knee's that went to Germany. I wouldn't believe we would be loaning him out when he has already had game time this year. If they were paying 25 plus for a straight deal I might believe it.

I would rather we had sold him, loans seem pointless unless we are getting a loan fee or there is a clause in there for them to buy him at the end.

As long as he doesn’t get a bad injury his sale value isn’t going to be harmed by a loan, and in fact if he plays well out there, gets some form back, his value may infact rise.
Undoubtedly loan fee and option to buy in there as you say also

It is an interesting one.

As we all know Sissoko is not of the quality required. But his function is largely to use his physicality to cover for the wing backs who are important to our attacking play.

People keep saying we can play Onomah or Amos but to my knowledge this isn’t their game.

For the long term we need to sell so if we get an acceptable offer for Sissoko that he will accept then we have to take it.

He's not just a body - he's a fecking huge unit of a body that can run and run. Poch does seem to prefer physique over brains sometime, and sometimes it's what you need.
