Have you considered that perhaps the answer could be someone else?

PS we won
Yeah, for how much? And how much would dembeles 3 year contract be? Yeah we won, because Harry Kane is Harry Kane and pretty much no other reason. We lost the midfield battle, pondered, lacked vision, lacked ideas. Our completely incompetent central midfield caused Kane to drop deep. Eriksen to drop deep and even verts to fuck off his position and come forward to grab the ball and try and do something. As far as centre midfield performances wanyama and Sissoko put on a shift worthy of relegation....
Is it really that crazy suggesting that maybe we should try and keep hold of our creaky old yet on his day untouchable central midfield general. And we perhaps shouldn't be so flippant at the prospect of letting him go on an the assumption we can spend his 3 year contracts worth elsewhere to greater effect.... Sissoko.... We spent 30 million pounds on Sissoko.

It doesn’t matter how much his contract would be if he’s only able to play 50% of the season at most.

He has to be replaced eventually and this seems like the ideal time to do it.

It’s not a binary choice of “Dembele or Sissoko”.

It may not be our choice, from the sound of things Dembele himself may have decided that his time in the Premier League is up. We need to get his long-term replacement sorted.

We will miss how easily he glides past players for absolute fun. But we wont miss his lack of quick forward passes

This is a weird one (don’t flack me for this) but when Renato Sanches played for Benfica and Portugal he looked incredible. Even in a stop-start first season at Bayern, he still showed moments of class...

I know he hasn’t been that great at Swansea this year, but not to forget the kid is only 20...and is a physical beast, with good technical qualities, I think he just needs the right coach...could be worth a cheeky bid? Seems to have become a forgotten boy whilst 2 years ago he was the cream of the Euros..

If not, I know N’Dombele has been good and is on loan from Amiens, have Lyon already exercised the buy option? Or could we swoop in a la Toby with Southampton?

I like Diawara as well, F. de Jong and Maddison too (although he would play further forward), big fan of Lewis Cook at Bournemouth also.

I think we need high energy, zippy midfielders who make that transition from defence to attack instantaneous. The issue we have with Dembele, Wanyama and Dier, is that the transition process is very pedestrian. I think Winks is probably the one who is good at nipping it on quickly, but on an injury level I’m not sure where he is at?

I think they'll exercise the option and maybe sell him at a significant profit.

For what it's worth: Belgian press are reporting that 'Chinese club Beijing Guoan remains in contact with the entourage of Moussa.' To summarize and translate the key elements:
  1. Beijing Guoan inquired in january for Moussa, but we said no.
  2. Moussa enjoys life at Spurs, but 'doubts that his vulnerable ankles can sustain another high intensity season of PL football and heavy training load' of MoPo.
  3. We 'want to offer him a new contract for an additional two seasons, but on our terms given his injury record'.
  4. 'Contract talks have been put on hold and a sale is not out of the question'.
If I am correct, this is largely in line with the ITK we got recently, apart of the last part.

I know stats aren't everything but I didn't realize he is only credited for zero goals or assists this year and only 2 assists and 1 goal the year before. He has some fantastic talents with his strength, dribbling and ball winning ability but we have to get a better passing player. I'm really not too fussed at this point about losing him if we can bring in a quality player or players to replace him.

Agent of Mousa (Tom De Mul) confirmed to a Belgian football website today that, 'as it stands, he will not sign a new contract' for Tottenham. 'There is lots of interest from teams inside and outside of Europe. Let's wait until after the WC.'

Reckon he's off by the sound of it.

Disappointed it will take until after the WC but honestly expected no different. This really is going to be a long window..

yeah disappointing but understandable from his/their position. They'll hope he'll get game time and raises his stock, which - admittedly - could also be a good thing for us transfer fee wise...

Or the scenario where he gets injured again and drops his stock which would be more likely IMO.

Sad to see Moussa off, but I don’t think there’ll be bad blood at all, he has been a fantastic servant and an outstanding talent, unfortunately we want to play a certain way and by all accounts he is admitting himself that he will struggle to continue play our system...

If we can get £30m-ish for him (maybe more if a China move comes in??) then we can look to reinvest that in a quality replacement...think we will need another player too, maybe a younger one as like an understudy...

Kovacic or Rabiot would be my A1 replacement...partner him with either De Jong, Diawara, someone like that...having those 2 plus Winks and Wanyama, plus Dier too, will give us some really good options going forward in midfield!

I'm going to lose my mind this summer reading how many people want De Jong and Diawara to replace Dembele.

What? No-one wants him to leave. But if he’s decided it’s time to move on, I reckon he’s earned the right to make that call with his 6 years’ great service. People are discussing the best solutions to filling the Dembele void - because whether he leaves this summer or not, he’ll need replacing very soon.

Great servant to the club. Don't know when next, if ever, we'll see such a perfect mix of brute strength and delicate skill at the Lane again

You may be misunderstanding me here. I actually think it is a smart idea for both parties to move on. Dembele has been a fantastic player for this teams for a long time, but if we want to improve the team I think his position is the main position to look for an upgrade, he has a hard time staying healthy, his play style I don't see leading to much longer of a high level of playing and ultimately I don't see his style being conducive for an absolute top team. I mean how many absolute top teams have a CM who can't really pass all that well and just dribble around everyone? I can't think of any.

I'm just more tired of people saying the Diawara and De Jong combo, people keep saying those names out there and I don't think really put much thought into it other than knowing that they're top prospects. If we are going to get rid of Dembele we need a more established player than a top prospect. We will take a big step back if we're throwing a 20 year old kid in there IMO. I'd be shocked if Diawara left Napoli. They hardly ever sell players and if they do they are for huge fees. Jorginho by all accounts is gone and now Hamsik's dad is coming out and saying there is a 60% chance of him going to China. Diawara isn't leaving if those guys are too. And I would hate if De Jong was the main replacement for Dembele. I think he could become a good player and has a ton of potential but he's played a significant amount of time at CB this season we need someone with more experience to dictate the tempo of the team.
