£3m more than Matt Targett. And £30m less than Wan Bissaka. Hard to see it as good business really unless we really are going with Foyth and Trippier will just end up on the bench. Surprising Palace aren't interested.
We're missing out on the HG 'tax' by selling him to Spain, which sucks for us. Like you say, would have been nice if Palace came knocking (or any other PL team)

For people who aren't convinced by Tripps, having Aurier, KWP and Foyth as our RB options is no scarier than having Tripps, Aurier, KWP and Foyth.

As I’ve said before, I don’t think we’ve finished surgery to that part of the team. I can’t believe Poch would be happy with those options. Yet he did keep on picking trippier ahead of them all.

I do suspect at the moment the reason trippier has gone over Aurier is that he’s easier to sell. If a decent bid came in for serge I reckon he will be off too.

Don't think we're significantly weaker without him- sure we'll see a lot more of Foyth at RB- but hope we've got a HG replacement lined up.

I really hope KWP has a brilliant pre-season and gives Poch something to think about.

Finally - liking this alot. 20m is fine. No one would actually pay more for Trippier after that crappy season, and when we want to sell.

Surprised by Atletico though.

Shows Poch actually can analyze a season, and see Trippier was an absoulte liability and costs of way to much points last season.

That's what we have to do to get to the top of the table!

What makes you say he's limited in that area? I would argue that we don't actually know what he's like in this area yet. What we do know is that he is outstanding technically and is generally a good decision maker on the ball. He's also quick enough without being rapid. There's enough that we do know about him to suggest that he could be good going forward, but we just don't know that for sure yet.

I listened to an interesting discussion a couple of weeks ago about attacking fullbacks. I can't remember if it was on Tifo Football or the Extra Inch. It might have been in relation to Wan-Bissaka. Anyway, one of those tactical style podcasts/videos. It mentioned that crosses from fullbacks is actually a statistically negligent ways in which goals are scored, Ie. really attacking fullbacks are a bit of a myth. It mentioned that what's important about most FBs in the modern game is the threat of width that they provide in an age where it's all number 8s and inside forwards, and the necessity of teams to be mindful of them and as a result not being able to limit room inside. I think back to the years we finished 3rd and 2nd in the league with Walker. He wasn't a great crosser, and he didn't tally many assists. Often he would provide a threat by being wide, but then when in a crossing position, he would regularly cut back to Eriksen, or a Dele, or even as far back as Dembele. Think of those two goals against Chelsea where Walker had the ball, cut back to Eriksen at the corner of the box, who then found Dele at the back post.

My point is that the emphasis you place on having great attacking output is a bit misplaced imo. What we would have in Foyth is someone who can get on the ball in wide area, and with his excellent technique and passing range, find players inside as the opposition shifts over to our right, leaving gaps. In this way he can have his own style of attacking play, without it firing 100 crosses into the box and hoping one finds Kane or Dele unmarked.

Fully appreciate your point but last season Liverpool’s fullbacks were clearly their main assist providers. Playing the inside forwards attacking three, which I what I think we would like to play, we would need our full backs to be assisting regularly. This has to happen with a flying front line. The cut backs would only stall attacks in this ‘Liverpool’ system.
Man City obviously play very differently with a ton of skill full players that can unlock a goal from midfield with a pass or drop of the shoulder at any time.
I also appreciate these numbers are crazy good for a FB, never mind both, though.

The wider picture is also interesting. Expanding to the top 20 on each list. We still only had one player in each category (freak City 5, Pool 3, AFCB 2, even Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal with more). We did so well to get the results finish top 4 last season! We def need higher All round returns next season. Less injuries will help for a start. Width and line breaking a must.

I'm surprised Chelsea got so much money for a player with only one arm.

I'm impressed that he's got the guts and self belief to move to a foreign country to try and prove himself in a new league. Considering where he was when we bought him he's had an incredible career - playing in a Champions League final, scoring in a world cup semi-final and now joining Atletico Madrid to play for another one of the best managers in the world. I hope he does well.

I do wish Trippier all the best. Didn't have his best season and I think it is the right time to move him on.

But this talk on skysports on how brave letting Trippier go. He was out of position, was covered by Sissoko and cost us a far I few goals.
