He seems a decent guy, so the personal hate is unwarranted. But he's not good enough defensively and has lost his crossing ability overnight. We need a new right back, and he needs a new challenge. I wish him all the best if he does move on and La Liga could be brilliant for him.

Because that's how SC rolls. The vilification he gets on here is laughable but SC loves a scapegoat.

Good move for him and us. He isn't the answer at RB for us and good time to cash in and hopefully look at bringing in someone who suits our system better.

I can't think of any player who cost us as often last season as Trippier did. Can you name some?

I mean I believe we are looking at double figures last season, where Trippier made clear and obvious fuck ups that directly led to us conceding goals. On top of that he contributed hardly anything going forwards.

I hope we sell, as it means we will be looking at bringing another RB in. Any new signing would have to try very hard to be as bad as Trippier was last season.

The guy can be solid enough when on form, but his form seems to have long deserted him, and when on form he isn't that good anyway, so I don't see an upside in keeping him and hoping he rediscovers his form. Plus his lack of athleticism, and his age, it's the right time to sell.
You weren't asking me, but Lloris probably wasn't far behind. The difference being that he recovered form towards the end of the season and made some crucial saves (from the penalty spot mostly) so people remember his season differently.

Trippier isn't as bad as people are making out, but he's also not as good as people were claiming when Walker left. I'd have been happy to keep him as a back up, but he's not good enough to be first choice for us. Hopefully we hear some positive news about a new RB signing soon enough.

Atletico is an interesting move for him. Doesn't seem up to their standards defensively but I wonder if they're looking for a player to make early crosses to Morata, who is a big aerial threat. He can provide good quality when on form. Their style might not be as physically draining as ours either.

Fearful stick for him the season gone but hopefully this move re-ignites him after a tough year, if the deal goes through without a hitch.

Matt Law reporting it now in the Telegraph.

Ally and Matt obviously have the same source at Spurs ?

I do think it's a deal which suits both Spurs and Trippier and we need an upgrade but I do think Trippier does deserve some respect, he never disrespected the fans, I think he always gave maximum effort, I think as a fanbase we would do well to remember when we cry for loyalty from some of the big stars that it goes both ways and to show those who put the effort a bit more gratitude. He's not been like the likes of Adebayor, Ghaly or Paulinho.

Will be very interesting to see how he gets on, clearly very highly regarded still after his World Cup exploits with so many top European Clubs being linked with him

I don’t believe he’s good enough but by the same token there’s no point selling him if we aren’t either signing a replacement, or fully prepared to give KWP the chance to make himself first choice.

Great move for Trippier. Nothing against the guy but is timid defending and lack of dynamism really frustrates the hell out of me.

I'm happy for KWP / Aurier / Foyth to battle it out for the right back spot.

So Atletico Madrid, who aren't shit and do seem to have a pretty good record of buying and selling players, are buying Trippier. Shows how much opinions can differ i suppose !

6x profit on a 29 year old RB who hasn’t shown any of his peak levels since the World Cup. Important to see who we replace with but great bit of business. He was the weak link for much of the season.
