The fans pay the wages (and handsomely) so have every right to be critical. The criticism is often quite over the top and sometimes becomes personal, which isn't acceptable, but if supporters think a player isn't good enough what are they supposed to do? We've been grinning and bearing it for decades.

You're right, and I agree with you.

However, nobody is forced to part with their money, or to continue to follow a club that they've been unhappily grinning & bearing what they can't resist criticising for decades.

It's all down to choice.

Napoli manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed the club are 'evaluating' Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier ahead of a possible move. #THFC

Quite surprised tbh, mostly because I think Beckham was the last english guy to move to Italy.

Fingers crossed they decide to make a move for him. Peach of a delivery when he has time and space but the rest of his game is absolutely appalling and can't wait to see the back of him.

Err vvd was not a gamble at all Liverpool knew exactly what they were buying as did everyone elae. It's not even remotely a comparable situation.
No player is ever guaranteed to be a worldy. Every transfer is a risk and in fact the more you pay the higher the gamble.

OK then. Rather than "gamble" , maybe "safe bet" would've been a more suitable term to use? As it was a pretty safe bet. It was Southampton who gambled when they got him from Celtic. And they did pretty well out of it.

I know it’s not cool to praise him but I really thought he stood up as a leader yesterday when we went down to 9 men.

Could see him encouraging and organising people and did a decent bit of defending to go with it.

Completely different spending big on a player that was proven in the League like VVD and had already accustomed to life in the United Kingdom even before Southampton at Celtic.

I don't think it about being cool, I have criticised him because imo he's been poor. Yesterday thought he played really well second half

Just doesn't have the quality required to allow the team more consistency or to compete at the same level as the teams we intend coming up against regularly in our search for success.
Whether or not he's with us next season will prove me correct or not.

It's almost as though he's a decent player who has really struggled with coming down from the high of being one of the best players at the last World Cup and not having had a break for 2 years.

I think it's a mentality issue. He's a much better back up than first choice as I think he's not got a consistency to him. When he was behind walker he would come in do relatively well and work to displace him as soon as he knew he was first choice his form dropped.

Keep him as a squad player unless we get a great offer I reckon. He’s HG at least and maybe, with a proper break and actual competition for a place, he’ll improve.
