Wimmer is a good centre back and will at some point be a first choice for us, of this I am sure. However, he is not as good as Vertonghen, he has a lot of learning to do before that can be suggested. I think in time he'll end up as good or ever better but at present Vertonghen is the better reader of the game, the better decision maker and the more composed under pressure.

I was absolutely battered on Saturday and have very little recollection of the game, although I do weirdly remember Wimmer being subbed at half time for Son.

Was that a tactical sub from Poch, was Wimmer injured, or was he just pulled for playing poorly. I'm assuming tactical as Son came on rather than Davis, but it could have been he was playing poorly and Poch saw an opportunity to change things up?

In my opinion, it was for two of those reasons; Tactical & Wimmer was having an absolute shocker! It allowed us to change formation and it allowed Wimmer to get off the f*cking pitch

Yeah I think it was for both reasons as welll. Kevin was just trying too hard at times. Pressing and being overzealous at times. I stand by the kid though cause he was IMMENSE last year for us. We cannot forget his contribution last year and for me it has only made Jan better. Wimmer is a great prospect IMO.

He's unfortunate that every time he gets a shot he ends up playing away against a huge team. Considering he hasn't played much in the league this season, he's had to play away games against Arsenal, Chelsea and City where the pressure is very much on.

Give him a couple of games against Sunderland and Boro to settle down a bit and get in the groove and he'll be fine.

Add Liverpool and Monaco to that as well.

It's a good point, he's been a bit unfortunate, whilst we know that he's not a top level defender he'll be better against the lower teams in the league where he can build some confidence up.

I wouldn't say he's not?

He isn't really is he, he's not on the same level as Vertonghen or Alderweireld for a start, he's got a long way to go.

Vertonghen two seasons ago wasn't on the same level as Vertonghen now. I agree with you though, he isn't in the same bracket as the Toby's, Koschielny's, Vertonghen's of this league, but he's certainly got all the attributes to become a top player.

Wimmer lst season after his run was very very good. I didnt want Verts back in tbh.

CB isnt the position where you can just not play for a long time and then come in and be on it. In a back two you work as a team and need time to form that understanding. Its even worse in a back three!

Last seasons form suggests to me that he isnt for away from being top level.

I don't think the back 3 suits Wimmer's game.

He's a good defender, but nowhere near as good a footballer as Dier, Jan, or Toby.

The Centre Backs need to be even better at playing the ball out in this 343 system.

Yes he had a very tough game to step into, but it's not just high press teams where he struggles.

The Villa game (low press) the change to Wimmer and Carter-Vickers was in part what made us so ponderous and static.

I'd rather stick Davies in, or revert to a back 4 until Jan is back.

Was fine against Arsenal and Watford playing in a back 3 and will be fine against the majority of teams in this league, I'd worry if he played against high pressing teams but can do a job against the rest.

probably pushing himself out of the club with that performance

surely poch won't be happy with that performance and would like to replace him? wimmer himself wants out too due to lack of game time

Alderwiereld was far worse than Wimmer in that game. Not sure why it's Kev and not Toby that's copping teh criticism.
